Re: mono drum overhead vs. miking every piece?
It should be obvious, but doesn't seem to have been mentioned, that there is a middle area between single mic and micing everything individually. Do a Google search on Rec.Audio.pro for "fletchers 3 mic" approach. Or think about things. I tend to view a drum kit as the equivalent of a percussion sec...

Re: Drum Skins Made Of Baby Cows
I can't compare them to real calfskin heads, but the Fibreskins are my favorites for toms. They actually make even Roto Toms sound good. When next I replace my kick drum batter, I'll be trying the Fibreskin head for that.

Re: 112 tube amp?
I decided a while back that the 1x12 combo was the ideal amp for most jobs. Since then, I've been thinking about getting several 1x12 closed back cabs, with various speakers, for the times when I want something different.

Re: question about rethreading a guitar neck

I'm trying to find a temporary fix and i'm hoping that this will do it. it's a very lovely, but also a very old and tried bass. it's a framus from west germany. in other words, it's a piece of shit bass that i got for free...

They are electrets. Produced during a time when that word was considered synonymous with crappy.

Re: lets talk about MXL 990 and 991 mics....
I noticed the diaphram in the mic was not as bit as typical LDC's. It is bigger than the 991 though. Has to be. [edit] Your totally right. I got a better look at it with light shining through it. It is the same size diaphram. How can they call this mic a LDC? Don't they have to be an inch for LDC? ...

Re: lets talk about MXL 990 and 991 mics....
I emailed MXL to ask about the 991. They weren't very informative, but claimed that they were "electronically similar" to the 603s. The adds are also misleadin, in that the 990 isn't really an LDC, but rather the same size diaphragm as the 603, 991 etc. in a larger housing. That said, the 990 has go...
