Group buy Chinese ribbon transformer upgrade

I got two of those original Chinese ribbon mics from the first Tape Op group buy. Later I bought two Cinemag transformers and then got busy and never put them in. I used to have the wiring instructions but can?t find them. I think that either the guy from cascade or Shiny box may have made the instr...

Because every piece of consumer audio gear has a da converter in it, manufactured by countless brands, I wonder how many designs and what range of quality exists in consumer gear. It?s safe to say there are many more da converters in existence than ad. Could the vast amount of designs and converters...

Oh, I get it. Get good converters then switch to pro tools M powered and I will have much better quality than the 002. If I decide to expand and upgrade the digital side, that sounds like an excellent choice. I'm just lusting after an analog board and a tape machine right now and want to make my cur...

Oh I'm just poking a little fun at musicians and singers who would like to substitute studio tools for practice. As for clients I don't have any. I record friends for fun and for free. I don't take any of this too seriously. Thus, I will never have a big expensive studio. But this is all off topic. ...

I was thinking of the Toft atb as a board and I always imagined that the next upgrade would be to replace the 002 with a 2" sixteen track ampex. I'm getting tired of using autotune. However, until then I need to keep recording adding a piece at a time. So I thought the board should come before the t...

Re: DA not as important as AD converters?

Thanks for the responses. Without ditching the 002 I?m stuck with 8 channels from the digi and another eight from a standalone converter. Being that I?m limited by the digi converters would it still be beneficial to mix outside the box convert back to digital to put it on a cd and then have the list...

DA not as important as AD converters?

I am planning to start mixing on an analog board and I am looking to purchase 8 channels of da conversion. I?m using a digi 002 and 8 channels of conversion from a focusrite ISA 428 on the way in. A friend and engineer told me that the conversion on the way out is nowhere near as important as on the...

Re: What kind of drum skins are you using?

For me it depends on the materials of the shells and type of tuning I like coated for maple or High pitched Jazz tunings. clear for birch or mahogany and low rock tuning. I always want the most amount of ring (thinest heads) but need to balance that with my budget and how long they will last. I try ...

Re: Grammy's Horrible Sound

What happened to vocalists who can sing? I actually wish there was some autotune on last night. J-lo sucked and the Southern Rock tribute nearly made me gag. Neither of those two Young Country Fuckers could stay on pitch. I must admit though Alicia Keys can sing. But the highlight of the night for m...
