Use a Fender or Rickenbacker bass with FLATWOUND strings. And tell the guitar player to leave all his pedals at home!

You could also hire Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye and Joe Osborn to play on your record....

I've been using a pair of them for about 5 years. I've found that they are kinda hyped in the high mids. The dynamics are pretty good at low listening levels but the internal amps start to compress when playing loud. So you get done with your tracking and crank it up, and it sounds so exciting, and ...

Try removing the foam windscreen and using a pop filter instead - this has really opened the mic up for me.

Wire for Sound

Check out this 60s short film about how wire is manufactured: http://www.youtube.com/user/industryfilmarchive#p/u/39/nfQtjimsjMI Pretty gritty industrial process; I wonder how the modern "oxygen free" stuff gets made. Or maybe the vintage wire is better because the shop foreman boils his tea on the ...

+1 on the Weber Alnico Signiatures I put a pair of Weber Alnico Sig 12s in a 60s open back 2x12 Vox extension cabinet and it is by far the best sounding cabinet I've ever owned. I use it with a 65 Bassman head and a Hiwatt 50. The Webers are also very light, which will be a plus when you stick 4 of ...

I like using a capo on a doubled guitar and playing the same chords as the main guitar but with different voicings. Like capo up 3 frets and your cowboy chord A Major shape is really a C, and if it's doubling a non-capo'd guitar that is playing a C it sounds huge

I saw an ad for a $300 jar of little rocks that you were supposed to place in your listening room to improve the sound of your system. For fun, I emailed the manufacturer a bunch of gibberish questions and got appropriately gibberish answers back. The guy was also selling audiophile-grade outlet cov...
