Re: amps vs. simulators
yes honestly proper touring amps and cabs are just for show, because any decent venue (even small ones) the crowd doesn't hear the amp, they hear the PA/FOH and those speakers and what the FOH person does. So it's mostly a vanity thing. Even when i was touring i was In Ears and the amp sometimes i ...

Re: amps vs. simulators
Nice cabs! If I was ever playing bass live again on a regular basis, I think I'd build a little posse of individual 10's I could stack up. As a live sound guy I've found the smaller the bass amp, the better the sound for the audience. i have found the issue is all the ported cabs. they have just wa...

Re: rotating speaker alternative
this actually sounds pretty good... https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/delay-modulation/waterfall-rotary-speaker.html and takes up a lot less space. . https://media.uaudio.com/assetlibrary/w/a/waterfall_rotary_pdp_feature3_1.jpg I was going to suggest this. I use it on all kinds of stuff. The Roto ...

Re: amps vs. simulators
... SO, the way I see it is you have a perfectly good tone for tracking direct, but then you can reamp it later on AND also have the DI preserved so you can use the STL thing as a supplemental layer. I am a big fan of getting the FINAL sound with the guitarist / bassist / instrumentalist in the ses...

Re: delivery resolutions for digital
I keep it at whatever the tracking settings are the entire time. I don't see any point in even thinking about it at this point since every streaming service can handle whatever you upload and if it's going to a mastering engineer I would keep it there anyway. It's annoying to render at different set...

Re: amps vs. simulators
In the metal world, so many people are using simulators now. Personally, I still find them sterile sounding, and I also find a lot of modern metal production sterile as fuck as well. I can't tell if that's just me being "stuck in my ways" and not being up with the modern sound, or not. I agree, the...

Re: Happy Black Friday! Did you get anything?
I went a little nuts, but also not that bad. ha. Have the DIY bug real bad so I got a Hairball Blue Stripe 1176 kit & 2 Hairball Bronze kits. Oxford Inflator, Kazrog True Iron and True Dynamics plugins. Also bought a rug for my temporary mix room in my apartment (80% off!). The studio I was working...

Re: Happy Black Friday! Did you get anything?
Do you enjoy the API Vision Channel Strip? I found myself using the waves API EQ's a lot, and didn't want to give WAVES money, so decided to go the UA route instead. It's good, but I often only use the EQ so when that's the case I just go to the stand-alone UAD plugs. The compressor is definitely c...

Re: Happy Black Friday! Did you get anything?
I also picked up a couple more UAD plugins (since this is one of the best times of the year to do so). I got the API Vision channel strip and the Culture Vulture (I fall for hardware emulations of hardware I would never buy in real life...). Do you enjoy the API Vision Channel Strip? I found myself...

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
haha, yes, the real solution is "Redo that part, and take it easy for fuck's sake!" It also will take less time. But what do I know, I only play a surgeon on TeeVee... I had a kid in last night doing the "pop" with the snare. I asked him to be careful because that can be problematic. Much to my del...

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
This makes sense too, but I also feel like this isn't just a gain/volume issue. Even if you turn down the transient, it's still there and is more manageable, but it's still not going to sound soft. Just quieter. I know what you mean. It's called "bass playing technique." haha, yes, the real s...

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
If it's inside your DAW: just select the offending giant click, and GAIN it down a lot. I do. Takes a few seconds, and you don't have to fiddle for minutes with plugins. Just bring it down in level until it is no longer a concern. This makes sense too, but I also feel like this isn't just a gain/vo...
