My EV666 is my go-to guitar cab mic. I recently used a 654 to record 3 simultaneous voices that were going to be mixed low - it was just right. An LDC would have had to much presence. I love bringing these battered and corroded things out -- people always think that they are some sort of WWII milita...

Take a look at the spike design that Soliloquy loudspeakers uses on their stands and floorstanding models: http://www.solspeak.com/sol_products/i_towers.php Basically, the nut holding the spike is over a hole in the platform, and the top of the spike is a knurled knob; this allows you to retract the...

but it's really not that hard.quote] I guess I'm a visual learner. It's kind of like setting the points on an old car's ignition - I read the procedure over and over again, but until someone showed me I never felt like I fully grasped it. Now I can do it blindfolded. I also always wonder about how ...

Tape Deck Demagnetizing on Youtube ???
On behalf of everyone here who is afraid to attempt this for fear of doing it wrong, would it be possible for one of the Titans of Analog Knowledge around here to post a quick Youtube of how to properly demagnetize a reel to reel deck using a han-d-mag?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

Revox "bias trap"
Hey folks- I posted this question over on "gear talk" but got no responses, so I'm giving it a whirl here- I have a Revox PR99 (mk 2) 1/4" half track deck. It's the "pro" version of the B77, in that it is 15ips and has XLR balanced I/O. In addition to the usual adjustment pots for Bias and Rec EQ, t...

Studer / Revox "Bias Trap"?
I'm finally putting my Revox PR99 1/4" 2 track back together (it arrived from the Bay smashed to bits). It has been a very long and tedious process gatting this machine to function again. I started to do the alignment today, and have a question- There is an adjustment, separate and apart from the Bi...

I use Caig MCL (Moving Contact Lube) on faders and pots - cleans the contacts and gets rid of the scratchiness but also lubricates them to make them operate smoothly. Old-school Contact Cleaner (like the CRC stuff you can get at Autozone) will dissolve the shaft lubricant and your pots will likely s...

BTW, for my 666 I was able to make an useable substitute for the nearly-impossible-to-find Cannon connector by taking an old switchcraft xlr and smooshing the business end in a vise a bit. The pins on the mic line up OK with the holes on the xlr, it's just the outer d-shaped part of the xlr wouldn't...

1. Tuning matters. A lot. After tracking in a studio that had a Petersen strobo-tuner, the overdubs I did on a guitar tuned with my trusty Boss stage tuner sounded bad against the backing tracks...."but the green light says i'm in tune!".... Purchasing (and constantly using ... between EVERY take) a...

I bought a pile of old brass longframe patch cables at a studio liquidation sale, and cleaned them up using the following process: 1: vigorous cleaning with Turtle Wash Chrome Polish (seemed a little less harsh than the Brasso) to remove tarnish, makes them look like new. 2: Cleaning all polish resi...

ReVox PR99 - NAB or IEC?
It's not spelled out in the manual whether my just-acquired ReVox PR99 (which is a pro version of the B77 with XLR i/o and sel-sync) is NAB eq or IEC eq. Does anyone know how to tell? I have an IEC MRL tape but not a NAB one so I'm crossing my fingers here.
