I plan to use this mic in a M-S configuration, and Jon from Shinybox told me that the larger mic bodies have a more even response front to back, the 46 is a bit brighter in one direction because the ribbon is not mounted symmetrically. I love my NT5s.... drum overheads and acoustic guitar is what I mostly use them for. Also percussion (djembes, hand drums, etc).

I agree that Shinybox looks great, but which one? The 23 or the 46? I wish they had the 46 in stock, I'd be tempted to just order both....

I agree that separation is overrated. What I'd do is spend time using several microphones to pick up the performer, whatever he/she is doing.
