The MacTel developer pc's I've seen have regular old Firewire on the front still (the case is the same as a G5, just different innards). We don't have any of the laptops, so I don't know if it is true. I seriously doubt they will be dropping it in the next rev of pc's/laptops they release. Even if t...

I remember doing some gigs in a remote truck when I was interning for the Austrian Broadcasting Corp (ORF). Depending on who was there, there could be an engineer and a producer both chainsmoking in a remote truck (read: small tight space, no windows, absolutely no ventilation). I couldn't stand it ...

I just realized the TOMB was back up today. Has it really been since Feb? I got over the addiction and didn't even realize it.

If anyone is going to the local AES meeting on the 13th, I'd be up for beers (or anything else) before or after.

Re: Grammy's Horrible Sound

Selected quotes from Yahoo: "After two years on an upswing, Grammy ratings sunk to their lowest level since 1995, according to Nielsen Media Research. " "People at CBS and elsewhere in the industry were somewhat perplexed by the numbers on Monday, given that the show was jam-packed with performances...

Re: Grammy's Decent Sound

I'm not into GD's music, but I thought it was a good live performance. I didn't hear any auto tuning. Everyone at Warner today is celebrating. I was amazed at the sound of Alicia Keys's performance, not just her but the mix of the entire ensemble. I am bummed that you don't see the jazz or tech or p...

I just shred & bag mine to make ultra economy bass traps.

But seriously folks, I'm in.

Re: making new mic cables out of old ones...

To put things in perspective, think of all those large installs at theatres. The amount of cable that goes from the wall/stagebox to the FOH is mind boggling (well, not really). In a lot of situations you have the cable (hopefully in conduit) that can go the entire heighth of the building, then tran...

Re: TM-D1000 recording to cubase

I'm not too familiar with Cubase, but to use the TDIF In/Out of the console you need something that can recognize that protocol. What sort of inputs are going into the Cubase rig? If you have AES/EBU, you need a spiffy little box called the IF-AE8 HR. If you're using lightpipe, you can get the IF-TA...

Sound Crew for Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Craziest polyrhythms I've ever heard. What! Is this what I think it is? I started building snakes for my newly installed JH24 24trk. :D I'm not sure what you're thinking it is, but this is what it was: http://www.sfcc.spokane.cc.wa.us/Academic/Music/...

Re: engineering portfolio sites?

I think there was a thread a while back that ragged on the usage of "we" when the company is comprised of just one person.

However, I go between third person and first person interchangeably on my site, whatever.

Recording Industry no BS News

So here is a question, proposition, rant, maybe even a plea: As with most audio geeks, I'm interested to know what is happening in the industry. However, I'm not interested in actively looking for people's opinions, endorsements on gear or what new gear is available -- you get plenty of that in the ...
