I'm working on one right now. I think it makes sense. You can listen in a car and hear the mix right from any spot - not missing the rhythm guitar because it's buried in your buddy's knee. I love when I get to work with someone that wants mono...

I started working with my roommate about 4 or 5 years ago. He was from Alaska, I was from San Diego. He was black, I'm white. He had a big afro, I have short hair with a receding hairline. He was more into doom, metal and noise, I was into pop, rock, indie, and hip hop. He was extremely messy, and I...

Old Kays are awesome. I've got the one called "Value Leader" (you'd never get away with a name like that today). Aside from being buzzy when not pointed North or South, it sounds really unique. Very bluesy, hollow and mellow attack. A lot of fun through super hot tubes.

i sent the signal straight out and directly back in through the 002 ins and outs. no hpf involved.

I guess this is simply the price you pay for living on the lower end of the digital/analog-hybrid home studio spectrum. You simply have to come up with a suitable workflow to accommodate these realities. i know. sucks. but not a huge deal. i'm adapting ... I have never seen LE automatically compens...

D/A/D Conversion weirdness

I ran a 20 Hz signal line out (at unity) and back in to a 002. Here's what happened:

it went out a square and came back a trapezoid. can somebody tell me why?

well, i WAS asking, "how do you go about auditioning settings when you have to listen to the drums 65ms late?" i realize that while running a signal through D/A/D in real time is going to cause unavoidable latency to some degree (varying with your gear/budget), and i'd still love to hear opinions on...

TCP/IP (pronounced Tee See Pee I Pee) ADC, I thought, was Audio to Digital Conversion. Somebody started people saying ADC was Automatic Delay Compensation. Then someone said the new ADC should actually be PDC for Plugin Delay Compensation, which seems like it would pass an ASS inspection to me. I t...

TCP/IP (pronounced Tee See Pee I Pee) Sorry dude. Everyone knows that one's pronounced "Tihkpip". Now that everyone is on a D'AWW, and acronyms are out of control, we have a new problem. People are making up there own acronyms and not getting them passed by the ASS (Acronym Specialists Society)(pro...

Delay compensation for going D/A/D

Tried to find this question via the search, and didn't exactly what I'm looking for. Hope I'm not repeating. So, I'm trying to mix more and more with outboard gear. How do you guys deal with the delay created by (I'm assuming) your converters? I'm on a Digi002 and I get a pretty serious lag after go...

absolutely not. the guy was a bit of a caveman. he went through a case of whippits in the first four hours of recording. the band eventually broke up in an epic fist fight.

maybe i should've tried a shotgun mic ...

whatever it is, it looks f'ing sick. maybe i should make 4 or 5 panels with light up knobs and market myself to crappy bands with money and gullibility.

i like to use a contact mic when i'm recording cajones. just make sure they shave first and use waterproof tape.

i'm sorry, that was poor taste.

actually, once i had the singer of a metal/doom band ask me to mic his taint ...
