If you think questions like these will come up more in the future, you owe it to yourself to learn to find and read tube data sheets. Duncan Amps' webpage has a great tube data sheet locator with lots of relevant information.

Finally found a use for these RED R12 (MC012) LD capsules

Like many of us, I bought a pair of RED R12 capsules for my (modded) Oktava mic bodies when they were being blown out for $99 each. They were fine, another 'color,' or whatever, certainly not indispensable, definitely OK, definitely not great. Usually they sit in boxes. But I think I finally found s...

near-nothing, except that both halves are probably "good." Unless you have a (calibrated!!) tester that can measure for plate current, transconductance, and shorts UNDER LOAD (that is, high voltages), then you're not really learning much about the 'health' of the tube, and you certainly can't do any...

OK, "in theory" vs. "in practice," fair enough... but this statement still confuses me: Impedance drive levels don't change that much from 6V6 to 6L6 Just for my own clarification, if you'll kindly indulge me--are you saying now that: a) the quoted statement isn't exactly true, but in practice it do...

Impedance drive levels don't change that much from 6V6 to 6L6, no need to rewind the output transformer. Yes, it will put out more watts, about 10. Yes, it will be louder. wha? :? Jim, I respect your knowledge of audio electronics immensely, so I ask this question in good faith. I'm sitting here lo...

might want to adjust speaker impedance, as well, if switching to 6L6. Otherwise, the loss in efficiency would work toward negating whatever small increase in power/headroom could be had.

If you want a "serious" offer, then it would help your cause to name an asking price. If it's too high, but someone wants your console, I bet they'll reply with a "serious" offer. If nobody replies, lower your asking price until they do. Just a suggestion. By the way, I'll up my offer to $50 shipped...

I'll offer 25 dollars. I mean, worth a shot, since nobody else seems to want it, right?

I suppose you're right. OK, all I need to get now is a thumbscrew for the mount.. anyone have one to spare? I see that these thumbscrews tend to only be sold as pairs for $110.. that is crazy! I only need a thumbscrew/washer/collar for one side. Anyone have to buy a set but only use one side?? Or k...

Well guys, that was all I needed to read... Thanks! :^: What does Clarence charge for a re-ribbon these days (ballpark anyhow)? You should probably call him and ask directly. I haven't had to use him in a few years, and don't know what his prices are like now. I remember it being very reasonable, t...

I personally would never use anyone but ENAK. I'm sure the others are great, but I tried ENAK first and I can't think of a compelling reason to even try anyone else. Clarence Kane has leftover NOS RCA ribbon stock, and a lot of the test equipment they used. He was THE factory repair guy at RCA for m...

Man, just send it to Clarence Kane at ENAK and get it restored. He'll knock it out of the park and you'll have a completely and totally awesome microphone. That thing looks great. I'm totally jealous of you! +1, every last bit of this. I can personally attest to Clarence Kane at ENAK. He's one of t...

But how many people in the audience appreciate the difference between a pre CBS Tele and a modern MIM? I don't select my gear, or make any decision, according to "will the audience be able to appreciate it?" That has never been my ethos, neither in live performance, nor recording. My goal is to do ...
