hey folks. i'm a recovering guitarist/audio engineer/producer (got a real job and hate it, though not being broke is nice) living in Salem, MA. i would love to get involved in a recording project. though I have very little gear of my own to offer, i would be thrilled to work as a freelancer in a stu...

here's a serious one--a mistake i made in a session with a young but experienced engineer who set me straight later that evening... even if you think you know more than the engineer, don't EVER contradict his/her opinion or practices in front of the client. ask questions and even challenge the engin...

i read the review of the new AT2020 (was it the 2020?) in the last tape-op. i'm not sure if it's technically below $100 but having used AT mics before, that (along with a cheap tube mic pre) will be my next purchase for my home studio. i want a LDC, something versatile and with some depth to the sou...

Re: Craig's List For Studios
i put an ad on craigslist in NYC advertising cheap recording rates at a good studio in manhattan during the overnights. a producer answered the ad and I did 2 sessions with him, one that was 3 nites, one that was one. we recorded basic tracks for a couple of different artists he was producing. they ...

i work in a v/o studio in manhattan. we use the Focusrite ISA 428, which i purchased for the studio based on the high end focusrite stuff's reputation alone. it's proven to be an EXCELLENT choice for v/o work. crystal clear and clean. the ISA 430 might be a better choice for you as it has many built...

Re: Importing AIFs to VST - need a little help
can you save them as wave files on the pc before burning a disc? just a thought--maybe VST on the the mac is expecting a PC file to be a wav and not recognizing it as aif. maybe it actually is not an aif or somewhat improperly formatted aif. itunes may have looser 'regulations' as to what it will pl...
