unless you are watching like lord of the rings.. and then you have the black bars even with a widescreen tv. What is that called cinemascope?

Yeah, it's widescreen; I was watching it widescreen (my dvd player was sending the black bars, so the whole thing was a 4:3 signal) and then I switched the dvd player to 16:9 ratio (so if the tv was on a normal aspect ratio you'd get a vertically stretched picture and no black bars) and then switch...

oh yeah. take it back and save for something good. Most of the big T.V. places will have 12-18 months intrest free.

Component video will make it look a little better maybe, but you need hdtv to take advantage of progressive scan.
