I?cannot agree more with the sentiment of hiring a lawyer to look over this contract.

I have been in this business for awhile now and can say that without a lawyer your crazy to deal with labels.

I would not sign without hiring a lawyer.

Stems

I mix down stems one every album I mix. I have been doing this for the last 10 years. The reason for doing this is help in the process of the music making its way into a movie or getting remixed and allowing the sound of my mix to be maintained. So when the post house wants to use just certain eleme...

Rates

Raising them is worth it,but not so easy. A lot of people including very well to do bands are getting studio day rates with and assistant for $400-$1000 a day in Citys like NY,LA,and Nashville. It really depends on your market and what your competition is and how booked you are. If you are booked 3-...

Gear

I recently purchased 16 channels of Spectra Sonics from a 1020 Console circa 1968. This is possibly from The Record Plant console. I plan on building a custom 8 Bus console using these channels as the main inputs along with 16 more Line inputs with no EQ for a total of 32X8X2 Custom Console.

I fortunately have been for the past 2 years. I would say 5% of my income has been from tech work .
Hopefully this trend continues for me.

Sorry bad IPad typing. As I was saying some of those classic records don't sound all that great, but they have very interesting qualities and lets not forget great song writing . The Rolling Stones come to mind in this way.

I completely agree that most of the work of mixing is done in the tracking. This fact is the reason the Classic records sound the way the do. The chain of importance :Good Song and Arrangment>Great Musicians>Good or cool sounding Instruments>The room it is recorded in>The Engineer Tracking it> The E...

Everyone involved in the record is a big fan of Gris Gris... I would say that we just wanted to make sure the record could be held to the same standard. We did not want to make typical record. Like I said , It was a hell of an experience ! Great times! I am also super lucky that I got to do F.O.H. f...
