Way overpriced in my opinion. I've owned 8 Nakamichi cassette decks since about 1983. Most of them have died and weren't worth fixing--mostly due to failed idler wheels. (Fixing a cassette deck costs more than buying a replacement!) I have three working Naks in my collection now: an LX-5, a DR-2, an...

Buy two channels of Safe Sound P1 from fellow countrymen. Your mics will love it. And if you don't already own any compression, this is a great unit to start with.

The API 2500 has a slope control (to control how much the bass content affects the compressor), and you can switch where the control signal is derived--pre or post-compressed. Therefore, it's super flexible. I love it!!!!

Yeah, it's another reunion run from The Moving Targets. This time with Kenny Chambers, Pat Brady, and Chuck Freeman. They kick ass!!! They were doing sweet but not too sugary post-punk... before punk became a fashion statement. And they've still got that sound!

I'm loving my API 2500 , especially for parallel compression, and ESPECIALLY for heavier stuff. For mixes of a recent in-studio live performance of The Moving Targets, the 2500 really came in handy to both big-a-fy and glue-i-fy the 12 one-taker songs that we recorded. I've never had success using a...

And if you want the most compact audio interface with a mic preamp and zero-latency headphone monitoring, the CEntrance MicPort Pro is probably it. Given that the CEntrance universal driver allows you to run multiple devices concurrently (even from different manufacturers), you can use multiple MicP...

The Safe Sound Audio P1 (See Tape Op #53 for a review) has only a single input channel, but it does have a stereo monitoring section with a headphone volume and a mix control (for zero-latency monitoring of the recorded signal while listening to the DAW). But the real kicker is that it's got a fanta...

The reversing the tape and re-recording a click is the best and quickest solution if you only need the count in as a tempo reference to be able to overdub other parts on the intro. I've done it many time and it works realy well. Yeah, I've done this a bajillion times too... usually after recording ...

I've got a big-ass rackmount APC UPS in the basement of my home. It is indeed loud, and it's mounted in a server rack that's bolted to the concrete slab. The sucker will email me when power fluctuates, and it will post SNMP messages so that all the other devices on my multi-building network are warn...

Free for pickup only: patchbays and anvil case

Can a patchbay be called vintage???? How about a vintage TASCAM PB-32W solderless, modular unbalanced bay that's older than most of you are? I've also got a Switchcraft 2x24 point MT bay that's about 1.2 RU height (just over 1 RU). (The MT plug, sometimes referred to as longframe, is shaped like TT,...

Free for pickup only: Dolby XP24 frame w/ 24 Dolby A modules

...and PS2 power supply. No cables. Mid 80s vintage. This sucker's been collecting dust in my studio for a whole bunch of years. It came with my Otari MTR90II 2'' when I bought it, and although I did a few projects with Dolby A on that very same 2'' (when it was installed in a friend's studio before...

TAKEN [Free: Akai S900 (the 12-bit sound of Public Enemy)]

Edit: Taken. I've got an S900 in an Anvil rack. Free to anyone who wants to drive to Cambridge MA and pick it up. During its heyday, the S900 was well-respected for having the lowest MIDI-in-to-audio-out latency of any polyphonic sampler. If you can't drive to Cambridge MA, then I'll ship the sucker...

Google results in this very informative article about the ECM Sound.

I own a ton of ECM vinyl. Love it.
