Logic Pro - Audio Sync issues

This is just doesn't make sense to me... I setup a logic studio for a friend with the following gear: new iMac 27" with an external USB 3.0 drive (for audio... might switch it to FW) Logic 9 Apogee Symphony I/O (connected via USB) (Driver buffer = 512samples & no audio delay compensation adjustment)...

Electrical Outlets / New apartment

So, I'm moving into a new place in 10 days... and the landlord told me yesterday "oh, and the tenant before you had their father upgrade all my outlets to 3-prong instead of 2-prong".... ...and my heart dropped. So, I ran over there with a radioshack outlet tester... Thankfully almost all of the out...

Might be building a studio desk later this year

I'm looking into having a local cabinet-maker (met him and talked design & techniques... got a good vibe) build this for me... but also, it turns out my boss has a fairly high-end workshop at his home... so I might take a swing at building this myself. I've been salivating over Sterling Modular's de...

8-in interface

I'm a fan of the M-Audio ProFire 2626. Not only is it pretty good out of the box, but they're on clearance in most retailers ($399) and Black Lion Audio does a pretty mean mod for them... So, immediately usable, and down-the-road upgradable to something bad-ass.

mixbus

Okay... I bought it. Put some files from a recent mix in the system to hear them played through the harrison engine... Sounded fine, but on my 8-Core Mac Pro, I didn't think it was particularly CPU-efficient. Also.... not super elegant as far as adding plug-ins to tracks and y'know... doing just abo...

Wow... Been off the board for a week and, wow! Great dialog.

Thanks again, everyone, for the great input. I got the 160x on Tuesday and popped it into an insert on my console. What everyone is saying is dead-on... The sound just comes forward a bit, in a really nice way. So glad I bought this! I'll definitely get a second one later this year... And then, down...

dbx 160x

Just snagged a very clean dbx 160x off 'the bay. It's going to be my first outboard compressor at home. Can't wait!

Thanks!

Greg,

Thanks for the feedback. I can see what you mean on those points.. In hindsight, I find the drums to be smaller than I wanted them. Also, the mastering that I did kinda squashed some of the life out of the guitars.

The Deep Cuts | Volume 1

This was done back in 2005. It's the first in-studio recording I ever did with my band, The Deep Cuts. We tracked in PT at a fairly decent studio. Then I edited and mapped all the synth / drum loop tracks to our live feel (in Nuendo 2.0 - do not recommend) then exported all that back to OMF and mixe...

I would use the monitor returns and flip the fader switch.
Alright, I can try that... thanks Jim!

24 Channel Summing on Toft ATB

Currently, I'm returning my tracks from PT / Logic through an (16 channels of) Apogee symphony (+8 more through M-Audio 2626) to the Monitor ins of my Toft ATB. That brings them to the small rotary faders on each strip. Can anyone speak to whether I should have a major difference in sound quality / ...

Mac Pro

It's very interesting... I've been working with this 2009 Mac Pro for a few+ years. It's great. I've upgraded it a lot, but have been wondering what the next machine would be like. It's pretty much exactly what I expected. I think that the question for people like me... with a fairly decked out Towe...

Also.... A trick I read about.

Also, when you have some time to experiment... Transfer a song into the system backwards. Unload the tape onto a takeup reel. Flip the reel over and then play the tape backwards during the transfer. Your track order will be backwards, so pay attention to labeling... But it should give you a cleaner ...

Looking for help from an Arturia Moog Modular guru

Hey there, I'm fairly savvy on synth programming, but I'm having trouble with the Mood Modular V. Looked for good tutorial videos, but never found anything that covers the mixer and oscillators in the depth that I need. I'm getting sounds, but I'm having trouble getting the mixer to behave as I thin...
