Word. I've hated Phosphor Bronze strings on every guitar I have ever tried them on. I much prefer 80/20s. Plain old Martin brand mediums have been my favorite for feel and woody tone. To me 80/20s are way more of an old school tone.....logical since phosphor bronze wasn't up and popularized till muc...

Pretty much what Chris said. Sometimes it takes a little creative experimenting but that's really going to be the basic formula. It's amazing what you can get away with sometimes. Also, sometimes you can close the gap (in PT anyways) by using the little parenthesis tool (not stretching) and find jus...

I don't know about the interleaved thing...... Beyond that, I have composed, performed and tracked (not mixed) my own records....one of which was mastered by the Goldens and it was the best mastering experience I have had so far. Everybody that works there is really great and super friendly. If you ...

For me, it's different depending on the situation. If I am recording someone else singing, my role is sort of quality control. I try to get a whole performance and it's easy to do a couple of quick punches to get the overall vocal right. I'll do like 2 or 3 decent sounding tracks (if the singer can,...

I swear I think you ought to have to apply for a license before purchasing hand drums). Word. I would be SO in to lobbying to get this bill passed. Come to think of it, some of the djembe playing I have been personally subjected to could arguably fall under the catagory of terrorism. Homeland Secur...

I went through the string thing when I first started getting more into acoustic guitars and it was exhaustive...man, was it exhaustive. I found out the following: It really, realy depends on the guitar, of course. Picking/strumming technique trumps strings more often than not. Never under estimate t...

I have found that the Shure SM7 will net a really fat, clean, pleasant sounding harmonica sound. This is obviously more for folky clean tones ala Steve Earle, etc where you want something generally realisitic without any melting of face or ears.
