Re: Dolby Noise reduction help.

You mean a Dolby SR card?

Try going to the Dolby site and searching for the manual.

This may help:
http://www.dolby.com/resources/tech_library/index.cfm

Also, if you're really stuck, call the friendly folks at Dolby
(415.558.0200) in San Francisco and they'll help you out.

Re: Cleaning CD player

I've had trouble in the past when dirt or a hair has gotten on the laser.
Open it and blow into really hard to try and knock it loose.
Or try canned compressed air.
Might be all that it is.

Re: Major label studio blues?

Think of it this way: in most cases the labels are paying the artists to make a record that will sell lots of units and make the giant corporation that owns the label a lot of money. Given this constraint, what type of control do you think they're likely to have? (The simple answer: a lot). The labe...

Re: hearing the difference b/w mp3 and WAV files

Regarding iTunes the don't use MP3. They use AAC (which you can think of as MP4). AAC is arguably much better than MP3 at similar data rates. Apple worked with Dolby to take the standard AAC code and add improvements to make it as good as they could (which is actually quite good). The default iTunes...

[quote="dayvel"]I would recommend that everyone do some ABX tests between WAV files and 128kbps mp3s done with a good codec (like the Fraunhoefer in iTunes). Re: The Liquid Channel

There are plenty of positive reviews on the Focusrite site (as you would expect!) and they're not ".... I laughed I cried, it's better than Cat's..." short style quotes. They have links to full articles. Most of the negative things I've heard are from people in forums who haven't heard one and don't...

Re: New U2 song - Vertigo

Cool track, a real rocker. I dig it.
I think the really loud, only in the left speaker guitar mix is brave.
It definitely sounds "wrong" on first listen.
This song will really rock live.

Re: The Liquid Channel

I just got mine and installed it in the studio. I love this thing, it really does sound great (I was hitting it with vocals over the weekend). The interface is a bit funky and takes some getting used to, but I really love what I've heard it do in just two days.

Re: Compressor moving my speakers!?

If you slam a signal so hard it clips, well that flat part is DC (or a real low frequency signal). You can burn out speakers real nice that way.

Re: Compulsive Liars

I was in a band once with a guy. We were both doing the singing. Pretty soon the rest of the band and the management decided that I should be the singer and the other guy should do backups and play bass. They arranged a meeting (it was almost like an intervention) where they were going to sit down w...
