but i like to use my tape machines in the middle of the night ! Then there's some evidence your situation might actually improve. Bob Ohlsson, on another forum (on a similar thread I started over there) said this: 've been reading a bit more about this which suggests it's a non-problem that is bein...

I've been doing some more reading about this myself. There is some evidence that cycle frequency could actually improve-- something about the error correction being done all at once, in the middle of the night, where they speed up the cycle for a bit so it can "catch up" to the required number of cy...

Just contact Marik Fouxman. I believe he is at ribbon mic at comcast dot net. He's the only guy I know of in the States who is actually re-ribboning Beyers with the original corrugation pattern. There might be others, but he's the one I know of. He did some work on a different mic for me once and wa...

Jfirst off how you can afford to do this in such an expensive city.. but more than anything, THE AMOUNT OF WORK YOU'VE DONE IN A WEEK IS MORE THAN I GOT DONE IN 3 MONTHS!!! Because they're ninjas. Duh. By the way, John, you can ad one more to your "team" for today. My writing session got moved-- I'...

I've been kind of addicted to single mics lately. Haven't experimented much with larger ensembles, and drums would present a challenge-- but I had a singer/uke player in recently... put up four mics, and ended up only using the old RCA ribbon (an SK-50 varacoustic with a Lundahl xformer). I placed a...

every once in awhile you can find a used Royer Modded MXL on the classifieds here and elsewhere for about your price range. That's generally a pretty good performer at that price point. No, it's not in the same category as blue chip mics (people that compare it to more expensive tube mics might have...

It's just different. You know how M160 can work on acoustic sometimes, and sometimes you want something brighter? It's kind of like that. The amount of 'sizzle' from the wires has more to do with the wires themselves and how the drum is set up (in my experience anyway). Sometimes the wires are actua...

I agree with M160 on bottom snare with something else on top. It can be really nice there, and out of harm's (stick's) way.

M160s have a strange corrugation pattern that makes the ribbon act pistonically. There are a couple of people who can fix them to be like original (Marik Fouxman is one). Most others like Sank and I believe Enak (who is my favorite for RCA repairs) replace them with RCA-style ribbon, only corrugated...

in my personal experience, the speaker in stock champs is usually the weak point.
