I've used 'em both a couple of times - The AKG spring sounded fantastic - real lush and smooth, and it sat great in a mix. The 240 foil... eh, not as impressed with. It was nice, sure, but it didn't really blow me away or anything.

Oh man, I love this record so much. It's much more than a novelty record... it's a bunch of great songs with a bunch of weird sounds.

I had a copy, but it got jacked out of my car a few weeks ago. Oh well, at least I still have Mp3's of it...

Sansamps and distortion pedals can be pretty wild... But if you're just going for a real pumpy compressor thing, I'd go with a fast attack and a med-fast release. Play with the release time, and see if you can get it to pump in time with the song.

Yeah, I don't blame you. Wurli's are fantastic. How much are you thinking?

WTB: Rhodes / Wurlitzer

I'm in the market for a rhodes or wurlitzer (or something similar that I haven't heard of). Maybe someone has an extra? :D

I'm in Seattle, and I'd like to stay under $400. ...So it'd be alright if it needs some TLC.

What kind of noise? Something electrical, like you were sharing power with the lighting? Or maybe the wind just picked up?

if you've got the dough to use it the entire time you're mixing, i'd say give it a shot. that'll allow you to build your mix around it. Yeah, I guess we have the cash for it. 5 days to mix 6 songs. Honestly, I've never worked directly on a session with this much money. He doesn't even bat an eye wh...

Fairchild advice

Okay, so I've been engineering a project for the last month with a producer who isn't tech-savvy, but loves product names and spending money. For the mix, he's hellbent on renting a Fairchild (the one in Vancouver, BC) and putting it over the stereo buss. I've never used one of these beasts, or had ...

Great music can be made with a Mackie. Shitty music can be made with an SSL. Just know what you've got, and how to avoid it's foibles. I guess my feeling about Mackies are that they're clean, but kinda boring. I think I'd rather mix in-the-box or on something a little weirder. (FWIW, I'm just starti...

Pretty sure it's makeup gain... It's been a while since I ran anything through it too, actually, which is part of why it's for sale.
