Re: basement studio in washington dc
Looks pretty sweet, if I do say so myself. Did you do it on your own, or hire out for it? either way, good theme. My only though would be make the navigation a little bigger (I'm using Safari on a mac G3, which I know is a minority situation); I got lost for a few seconds thinking I was looking at a...

Re: go china!
My fear of Nady spawned from the "4-pack of Premium vocal mics for $79..." thing. =)inhumentor wrote:For some reason I can't see myself ever buying a nady mic. Have the people in expensive mic industries got to me?
But who knows, and I suppose you're not down too much if it's completely useless.

Re: Dub Narcotic Studio Mixing Console
You know, I was just reading through a bunch of old TO's lying around, and the dub narcotic article was in one of 'em. ..."[it was an] Electrodyne board. Didn't have any meters, had the amps, but they were disconnected completely..." Apparently he got it from Tom Robinson at Concert Sound in Portlan...

Re: Denver - Rockin'? Or utterly lame?
Wow, talk about quick response! ...Gives me a lot to think about. I guess the verdict overall is, move if you like mountains and heat, and have job-potential, but not for music reasons. Of course, therein lies the issue; I've never had a professional job as of yet, save retail (I'm only 21), so wher...

Denver - Rockin'? Or utterly lame?
Hey all, So, a friend of mine is trying to convince me to move to Denver, and I've flown through there, but never spent any time. What's the rec scene / music scene like? How about jobs? Or just in general? I have it in my head that it's country, 24/7. ...not that there's anything wrong with that. =...

Re: Triggering kicks from a drum machine from real drums. Wr
Well, all a trigger is is a cheap little piezo stick-on mic, so you can use essentially any signal to trigger a drum machine. All they look for is dynamics, I think. So take your original kick, compress and edit or gate it, then send that channel out to the trigger input of your drum machine, assumi...

Re: Can a 5.1 mix be done on a traditional large format cons
Well, someone else back me up on this, but I believe you just need to find six discrete mixes off the board - In most cases, 2 from the stereo mix, and then 4 aux sends... Not exactly intuitive, but it'd work. If you're working with an SSL 4000, then you can use the Quad buss for another two, and th...

Re: Help me help myself...by the way, I'm new.
I'm with you there - Looks like you've got enough for a basement-bomber album! Slap 58's on everything, maybe that AT on the money instrument (be it vocals, upright, mandolin, whatever's most prominent), and go with it. I think that, if you're going live with the whole band (seems to make sense for ...

WTB - 8 ch mixer for impossibly cheap
Hey All, I just picked up an ADAT for under $100, so I'm looking for a smallish mixer to match up with it. ...Looking for something in the $150 - $200 range (mackies, behringers, etc.). Anything goes! Let me know what wierd crap you all have lying around the studio that you'd like to part with. ...I...

Re: 50s/60s Jazz Piano Sound
Just a thought, I've had success micing pianos from underneath, just by setting a couple LDC's on pillows, on the floor below the piano. Maybe a little less direct placement would add to that 60's vibe? Or maybe even just one mic?
