Re: Ever scared to say your mix is 'finished'?
Like with any creation it's hard to know when to say a piece is done. I remember in art school having one of my professors tell me to move on from a particular painting that I kept reworking untill finally it became a different painting. I definitely agree with the notion of giving it a rest for a c...

pirate radio
Here is a mix of a new tune I did for my local pirate radio station. http://www.reninet.com/~langdon/mp3/pirate%20radio.mp3 Suggestions? Tips? I feel like i overdid it with the L2 on the old computer. Trying to figure out a way to make the recording sound hot without compressing the f#$k out of ever...

Re: Got A Sec? Mind Checking Out My New Site?
Fine work ther roberttait. Nice and clean design. I like that in a web site. My band's website is a cluttered mass of mumbo jumbo. I'd like to start it over someday. Not looking forward to that task. check it out at http://www.thehitchrocks.com

Re: mix suggestions for shorty
Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to let go of my lack of stereo fears. Who cares if it dosen't sound good on a broken boom box? Got to try to pan more... got... to pan.. harder, must pan... Here is a song I just finished for a local pirate radio station. I'm panning a bit harder on this one, but...

Re: Who do you sing like?
Don't know who I sing like. I do notice that when I sing while listening to a mix in headphones, they tend to soud out of tune when soloed. Why is that? If I leave one ear uncoverd it sounds more on key. ????

Re: mix suggestions for shorty
Thanks for the comments SecondSon. Things are panned a bit, but nothing is panned drastically. I'm often tentative on panning hard. There are two guitars panned left and right a bit. Maybe they are cancelling each other out by seeming up the middle. Other than mix problems, nothing seems too out of ...

mix suggestions for shorty
Working on my room sound, and mix. Any comments of suggestions on this test tune I've recorded? It's all done in a small room (12x12) on a pc using cubase, and a bevy of cheap mics. My monitoring situation leaves a lot to be desired, so outside input would be most appreciated. http://www.humboldtmus...

Favorite recordings of the moment,
Gang of Four, Entertainment (awesome bass-drum-guitar record)
Butthole Surfers, Locust Abortion Technition (testing the limits)
Mos Generator, Stone county line (two words, rock recording)
Federation X, X Patriot (Albini recording, not as fun as live)

Re: ahhh, early SST production
My own personal experience with sst stuff is that it is made for feeling in the gut, and not in the ear. My first listen to Black Flags "six pack" seven inch made me think this band sucks, till I saw them live. Then I GOT IT. Maybe it was the mushrooms, but I loved those all SST tours that came thro...

Re: What track have you tried to copy exactly?
I recently tried a cover of The Kinks song "brainwashed" on my pc recorder. http://www.humboldtmusic.com/Music/brainwashed.mp3 I find it hard to do good songs justice in the cover tune realm. Not an exact replica by any means, but a fun challange to fill out the sound without a horn section as on th...

Re: The Zombies....
This is weird. In high school my friends and I were considered outcasts for listening to bands like the Zombies. Refreshing to see so many others moved by this group. THE ZOMBIES ARE NOT DEAD! I still have my Parrot Records promotional copy of the She's not there/Tell her no LP. An all around talent...

Re: feedback on garbage
I wonder sometimes how Bonham gets such a full heavy sounding drums. I know for a time in his career he payed on a plastic Ludwig Vistalite set. Those drums allways sound so flappy to me when I see them played, yet the Led Zep recordings sound so damn full. ????

Re: feedback on garbage
Thanks for the input Tom. Vocals are a buried, and were sung very quietly in the wee hours, as not to wake the wife and baby. I do have some time stretch options, although I'm not quite sure how to use the one in cubase. I have done something similar to that in Acid. Are you taling about lowering th...
