I use a ProCo Rat (distortion pedal) for a preamp. Knobs one and two (gain and filter) on 9:00, knob three (output volume) on 3:00. Acts as a compressor after a certain fashion -- give it more gain and it distorts a tad, rather than getting louder. Evens out the tonal range, and is totally quiet oth...

(...In other words, if you recorded them at 48khz, and you're playing them back at 44.1, or... They were recorded at 44.1khz, but Windows playing back system sounds has changed the sample rate down to 32khz.)
