Re: Saturation

I learned by testing years after years that low frequencies in my opinion need saturation before compression to sit nicely. I add saturation and lowpass it down to most often around 500Hz before I blend it back with the dry signal just so that I notice that something almost insignificant has been a...

When I had the same problem, I replaced the pot and the crackle came back extremely quickly (like a week later, IIRC), leading me to believe that the cause is dc leaking into the pot, maybe from a bad capacitor nearby. I actually suspected this to begin with, but the fellow I spoke with at Soundcraf...

Reaper can use a lot of different kinds of files, but WAV or AIFF are your best bets as far as what PT can export. I don't remember exactly how, but at least in PT9 it's pretty easy to turn off all fx and panning, zero all the faders, and render each track as an audio file, with each file being (thi...

If you haven't already decommissioned the PT PC, I would use PT to export all of your tracks as WAVs or AIFFs. I can go into further detail if you want.

It doesn't have a destructive editor, but it can edit and render files, if that makes sense. As far as redbook cd burning, yes with the asterisk that some of the possible pro mastering functionality is made possible by community-based extensions and macros. Which IMHO underscores reaper's awesomenes...

We don't work for the Reaper developers, but we sure recommend it a lot. Fantastic software.

Audacity is free/open-source, so it's worth a shot. If that doesn't cut it, Reaper's inexpensive and has waaaaay more features than you need, but is so customizable that you could easily bend it to perform your exact workflow in a streamlined manner.

It probably wouldn't be too hard to make a Max or Pure Data patch to do exactly what you need and nothing more. With Max, it could even be compiled as a standalone Windows or Mac application. With Pure Data, it could also be Linux, which could keep your costs down. I've been ruminating about maybe t...

Very nice! Although your photos are a painful reminder that I need to de-clutter in a major way! I also am a big fan of the paper ball lights. I think my end result will hopefully be a tracking/mixing version of what you've got. Although I'm open-minded, folks, so bring on the 2 centses!

I actually followed your recommendation for the Phillips bulbs from the other LED lighting thread, and tried a few of the indoor floodlights in my cutting room. next to the equivalent incandescents, they're identical to my eyes, and don't seem to strobe like other LEDs I've seen. My only problem wit...
