if there's room on the tape before and after each song, punch in a 1/100 of a second 'Blip' across all 16 tracks SILMULTANIOUSLY, at the beginning and again at the end. this will help as you line up the four individual passes. Hopefully the drift isn't so significant, it probably won't be. the blip...

I normally don't post an answer without actually having first-hand experience in the topic, but I'll make the exception this time because I can picture exactly how I would attemt a similar project :D For old-school jazz and big band recording, it's probably best to take the minimalist approach. If I...

I had great results from two different methods. One method was a ribbon pointed near the neck joint out about 18", and a C414 a few feet out from the bridge in cardioid. Panned, the combination gave a really sweet and spacious sound. The other method was using the same two mics in mid/side setup. Th...

I would unplug it unless your power supply has a rocker switch on it. If its a newer form (ATX or up) There will be power on the motherboard waiting for you to push the button on the front. If your power supply does not have a switch right next to the fan mor than likly there will be juice on the M...

To get your feet wet - on the cheap - here's something you might try. Make your living room into a surround suite and with the addition of a DVD player you have home theatre! If you don't already have this facility and you have a spare PCI slot on your home computer and your DAW software allows dir...

I think it would work, but you really should sync everything up to a common clock source. This can be done using a dedicated clock generator or possibly via SPDIF from one of the sound cards. You will need to configure the slave sound cards to clock externally. Be sure to set the clock rates the sam...

Nobody mentioned the Audio Technica AT4060. This, and the Mojave Audio MA200, are my favorite LD tube condensors. The AT4060 is fat in the bottom and just the right amount of air on top. Not sure if the tube has much to do with the sound, but it's one of the mics I go to many times because it isn't ...

As a former HD24 owner, I can say that I really miss having one. Super stable and they sound great. I switched to recording directly to a PC for easier mixing, editing, volume automation and burning a CD instead of tranfering files back and forth - even with the EXTREMELY fast FirePort. It's a trade...

You can have almost any type of cable or snake configuration made at Hotwired Cables http://www.hotwiredcables.com/

They use all high quality materials and their workmanship and service are excellent. Their prices are about as low as you'll find anywhere for custom snakes and cables.

Anybody try it on banjo or violin?

In your case I strongly suggest renting one. Here's why: 1) The instrument is set up properly for ease of playing and tone (or SHoULD be). 2) If you decide that it isn't for you, then you don't have to worry about selling it. 3) It will probably be a better quality instrument compared to your spendi...

I like the whole concept of having a stable unit (unlike PC, but much like a HD24) with editing/mixing capability (like a computer, unlike the HD24). Right now, I miss the extreme stability & ease of recording of the HD24 I got rig of last year. I replaced it with a PC based DAW so I can have autom...
