I have used a Firepod with my 400sc. From the research I have done, the most compatable firewire cards use a Texas Instruments chip. The Firewire card in my 400sc has the TI chip and has worked flawlessly for me.

I also agree with these people. I record mostly acoustic music and it's the compressor I go to first in my small collection for acoustic instruments. It seems to be the most "analog" sounding and acoustic instrument friendly.

Have you recently installed new hardware? How full is your hard drive? Are you playing back from your OS drive, or second HDD?

You really should consider the Mojave Audio MA200 tube mic for $1000. Vocal & guitar recordings have never sounded better to me without a lot of EQ tweaks. Really worth every penny.

I record mandolin on a regular basis for Folk and Bluegrass styles. Normally I use SD condenser mics on instruments, but for mandolin I like to use a LD tube mic (Audio Technica AT4060 or Mojave Audio MA200) about 18" out from an area between the bridge and tailpiece - pointed at the sound hole. Man...

No benefit at all - sorry. It will only use up much more storage space for the up-samples files.

When I had only one computer to use for internet and recording, I used two hard drives for the OS- each in it's own removeable caddy. When I wanted to switch from surfing to recording, I simply swapped the HDD caddys. This also allowed for two different OS tweaks and installed software.

Got my AudioFire8 a few days back, and finally got the chance to rack it and install it. Echoaudio.com posted new drivers on October 19, so I got those. Absolutely flawless on the first try. I'm using a Windows based laptop with a four pin firewire jack that's part of the laptop build. within minut...

1) Pick a mix engineer that is experienced with the style of music to be mixed. 2) Name each track file with the song name & instrument/voice. Clear, organized files & documentation will make the best use of your studio dollars. 3) Make your edits in advance. Clean up the head and tails of the track...

OK, but I still want to know about this (above). I ask for many reasons other then just if I will have enough space on a hard drive for all my ideas. I don't want to keep all my recordings on one (even two hard drives)... I want to be able to have them in multitrack "master" form portable like a re...

I back up my projects onto another hard drive. When I had my HD24, the second (backup) HDD was in the second drive bay in the HD24. For longer storage time, I archive my projects using dual layer DVDs. Heck, for the low cost of hard drives these days, you could actually archive a few entire projects...

I slipped a set over the upper bout of my upright bass. I never tried recording that way, but it was an interesting sound that could possibly used in the right situation.

If you get the Fireport adapter, you can dump the tracks into a computer for editing and then back again into the HD24 for mixdown. Wow, how much is that part? Anyone know if there are any issues with linking up to PC vs. MAC to the HD24 like there are with the ECHO Audiofire 12??[/quote] The Firep...

As a rule, look for refresh rates of under 10ms. Standard resolution will be fine for audio production. You can run dual monitors, or use a wide screen as you mentioned. I use a wide screen for the sake of portability. Just be aware that the specs on a wide screen may fool you. A 19" wide screen is ...

Is there still the problem of using these with a PC? If I need to get a MAc, I may force me to just get an all in one unit like the Alisis HD24... but they are expensive vs. using the PC I already have an just getting an interface unit. Frustraiting decisions... The Alesis HD24 for under $140...
