Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad

I have owned two 506s and had no issues at all - i only sold the one because i bought an 11 slot JLM (speaking of killer 500 series gear!). i don't think you'll regret it! now i'm curious about the a-designs, but i have plenty of preamps these days, admittedly!

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad

currently a lindell 506 on reverb with 2 capi VP26 and two Golden Age Pres. never heard those GAPs before, but even if you hate them, you could probably sell them and get enough to add a third CAPI. not bad for $1200

Re: Warm WA412 vs. Black Lion Audio B12A Quad

i apologize in advance for muddying the waters further, but have you thought about going 500 series and going with CAPI? a lot of people like them better than current API offerings and if you aren't handy with a soldering iron, you can usually find them for $300ish a piece used - sometimes less. Add...

Re: Cubase Pro 10.5 opinions

I admittedly haven't tried 10.5, but i did finally switch over to 10 last year, after being on 6 since maybe 2012? it definitely took some getting used to, but wasn't as great a leap as i feared. i was a little clumsy tracking at first, but a couple quick google searches had me back to my speedy nor...

Hopefully that means we'll have a bunch of records to mix/rescue in 6-8 months.

looks like interfaces are flying off the shelves!

i'm sure i'm not alone in fielding a million recording/gear questions since the lockdown started. i hadn't looked for an interface for anyone for probably a month, but it looks wildly different since i last looked - all the cheap stuff is long gone.

part of me finds this encouraging.

Re: Favorite Hardware Reverb Unit

+1 for PCM60. i only sold it cuz I'm all ITB these days and hadn't used it in a long time. but it sounded great and was so damn simple and easy to dial in.

got to use a Klark Teknik DN780 once and was blown away. if i was investing in outboard again, i'd start saving for one of those!

Re: small mixers for tracking headphones?

the thing that bugs me about CAT5 cabling is that it's not sturdy. the plastic bits break off and even with them present, the connectors tend to come loose. I think an XLR or TRS cable would be a helluva lot more sturdy, is all. that, and panning is what i'm after.

Re: small mixers for tracking headphones?

Was thinking a splitter of some kind - art make 4 and 8 channel ones. Maybe one or two of those and some xlr to trs splitters? I have one for podcast recording redundancy. Might not be the craziest idea. May try putting one together and report back

small mixers for tracking headphones?

anyone doing this? have been rocking Furman HR6s for some time, but the stupid CAT5 cables always seem finicky and I don't like the panning limitations - nevermind the fact that they are no longer made. saw some Greg Wells session somewhere they were using little Mackie's for headphone mixers. I don...

-pair of Beyer M160s. have wanted a pair of these forever and finally pulled the trigger! such great guitar mics. haven't tried on drum OH just yet, but will soon. -Slate VMS ML-1. surprisingly good sounding mic without emulations, but not very exciting/useful for my type of productions. listed in b...

Re: dark condensers on the cheap for high SPLs

damn, you got 8?! jealous. $70ish a pop when they were blowing them out was pretty tough to pass up, but i only snagged 3. i'll make do. have wanted a 4047 for a good while, but yeah, a bit pricier. soon, though. curious about trying a cheap-o ribbon, now, though.
