He's choking the drum. After a cretin velocity the drum just can produce any more sound. And, the air can move out of the vent hole fast enough so the heads aren't vibrating they way they should. Its like phase cancellation.

Sorry I was not clearer. I had a Mono OH, a mono Room, and a stereo Room set up. So four mics, two mono and one stereo pair.
