Mellotron Software Synth/Samples
I'm looking for Mellotron software synth/samples. Anyone have any opinion on M-Tron vs. the Mello Zone Expansion Tank for Sample Tank? Or other suggestions? Just looking for maximum sounds and ease of use - I'm no genius when it comes to synths and samplers. FYI, I'm running PT5.2/Digi 001 with Mac ...

Re: Neil Young guitar options
Makes sense that the DeArmond works well for the Neil tone alright, that was his main guitar until he got the Les Paul. Just as an interesitng aside, Neil took the Les Paul pickups out of 'Ol Black and put in Gibson Firebird ones!! Crazy, huh? Course you've got the telecaster for Tonight's the Nigh...

Re: Why do you like protools so much?
but now you are stuck to their hardware, right? I've read this before. What does this mean? I have a Roland VS-1880 and I use an M-Audio Duo (2-ch) as a standalone A/D converter. My D/A conversion is done by the Roland (although, actually, I run from the 1880 into powered monitors with digital inpu...

Re: Recommend a decent pre for around $300?
Might consider a used Focusrite Platinum Voicemaster. Has noise reduction/gate, compression - soft and hard, EQ, de-ess, and a tube/tape saturation kind of thing.... I like it - I've used it on guitar, vocals, keys, etc. It's flexible and you can get one used for anywhere from $200-350. I saw a coup...

Re: What's up with Echoplexes?
I have a Klemt Echolette S tape echo (the German echoplex...) I got for about $250 on eBay (someone is selling one this week at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2553712229&category=23790). You can usually get one for around $275-300. I love it, but it's not as easy and practical as...

Re: Hi hat mics
Not exactly an answer to your question, but... We were doing some recording last week and used my Rode Classic II (a big ol' tube mic - we had it set on omni) as an overhead. It sounded killer. When we solo'ed the Rode, it sounded so good it would've worked as the drum track/drum mix all by itself. ...

Some partners and I are working on buying an old feed store building out in the country for conversion to a studio. Basically, it's a gigantic, massive huge steel framed tin sheathed building on a massive concrete slab. I'm talking HUGE. Like a wide open 50X200 space with a 30 foot ceiling. The idea...

Re: OK, most obvoius use of auto tune on a song
yeah, i remember that uncle kracker atrocity. if they would have just kicked up the autotune a *little* bit more, it would have been into the digital cher voice effect, which would have been ok. but istead, they tried to "deny" it. Oh yeah. Here's another vote for Uncle Kracker. Definitely the most...

Baby Taylor acoustic guitar
A friend of mine has one of these and it sounds fantastic. It sounds especially fantastic high-strung. He used to high-string (i.e., string them an octave higher than normal) the low E and A strings. Last night we played and he had high-strung the E-A-D-G strings. It sounded KILLER, especially in ta...

cwileyriser- Summer Hymns!! Any band that references Mr. Show for an album title pretty much rules in my book. Is your tour getting anywhere close to Vancouver? Not on this go-round. However, Chris Lee is continuing on out west after the tour ends in Austin. He is playing in Vancouver on August 9th...

Been playing bass and lap steel for Chris Lee on an all Misra (label) tour with Summer Hymns (a really great psychpopsomethingorother band from Athens GA) and Will Johnson (an amazing singer, guitarist and songwriter from Denton TX who leads Centro-Matic). I did 6 dates last week, ending with a show...

Re: CD packaging alternatives, TapeOp style
look at this picture, then think about your packaging materials. http://www.splendidezine.com/reviewinfo.html it seems so obvious to me that I don't understand why bands actually send out promo materials in normal manila envelopes. you're so creative with your own music, why not extend that to your...

Re: Roland VS2480 vs. others ???
And both have GREAT usergroups. Some of the most helpful on the 'net. Where is the VS usergroup on the web? Also, does anyone know whether the outboard connectivity of the 2480 is any better than the 1680 or 1880? That's what I hate the most about my rig. Not a big deal most of the time because I j...
