I wish I could explain it in more technical terms...I'm sure many here could, and I look forward to hearing what folks say, but I have yet to hear a plug in compressor, gate or reverb that sounds as good as the outboard gear. I think the plug in delays are ok, but there is something about the...?aco...

I'm assuming that you are going to get some rather hateful comments regarding the C1000's, however they were some of the first condensers I owned (they were affordable......like $300 for a pair) and I've used them on on damn near everything. They are fairly acceptable on overheads....you can get goo...

I did a mandolin with the 4041 and it came across great......I'd guess that the instruments are working in somewhat the same frequencies.....

I've been recording at school with a Sony DMX-R 100, Pro Tools & ADATs......Large Pro Rooms with SSL Consoles....and at home with my chumpy Delta 1010 and Sonic Foundry Vegas software....the only thing that matters in my mind is that you do record regardless of what you have....either be involved or...

A fellow I knew gave me a Shure 515SA mic. that was used at the grocery store he worked at to call for cleanups and price checks....not bad if you need to add that grocery store clerk sound to a track.

I'd like to say I had a pair of AKG C414 but to no alas.....don't have them yet. However I do have a pair of AT 4033 that are rather cheap (around $300 each) that I love to throw up in the room to record rehersals.
