Blackbird is an interesting place... it's only a handful of years old (6 or so)... GML and Korby both have tech space there and they have the insane rental part. John McBride started with a PT rig in his basement, then wanted to put a vocal booth in his garage and ended up building Blackbird. I wish...

I'll second leaving the faders on the console at unity. I am currently "mixing" on a Ghost, but it's really just a big summing box with EQs, inserts and aux sends... it works really well for me... less to recall, of course I only have 2 pieces of outboard gear right now, so that statement may change...

I went to recording school (yeah, that one)... I learned a lot of crap, nothing to do with making records, but lots o' crap still. It wasn't until I failed time after time while doing this for free that I actually learned something...

Ha! Unfortunately a bulk of today's mainstream / pop music recordings exceed specification limits because recording levels were set too high during the mastering process. I have detected the presence of 0dBFS+ levels in a small but significant portion of my personal CD collection. Sure, I can rant ...

Ela-M 251 = BMW 740iL

The best car I have ever owned/driven (although I haven't owned a 251)... and when gas prices raise again, it will be the best car I have ever sold.

I don't believe a new install of OSX would help. The card itself may not be compatible with Apple's CORE Audio? I'm not sure, you may try and call Lucid to ask if the card is compatible with OSX? I'm not sure if it would be... this is what I've found. System Requirements: * Power Macintosh or Pentui...

I haven't used this card, but I love the Lucid gear I have used, the only downside I guess is that it can only record 20bit material, but will play back 24bit... if that's not an issue, then cool. On the Mac/PC issue, I really like Peak, and used G4 towers are going for dirt these days, so that seem...

There's also the school of thought that there is some value in having the pregnant woman sound like a pregnant woman. Yes, but then again, I would need to either have the lead vocalist redo his part that she is singing harmony too or fix hers? Either way fixing hers sounds better... flat singing ca...

I use a G4 eMac (1.25GHz/1GB Ram), Logic 8, and a MOTU 896... no issues. I also use a Ghost so I don't have to monitor off of the computer for tracking, so that is a huge help, but I typically have track counts in the 30s - 40s with 40+ plug-ins, no problem, never have any issues, and it sounds grea...

Auto-Tune... I've changed my mind...

Okay, so I've been an outspoken opponent of pitch correction plug-ins for a long time, I've always felt (as a singer myself) that if you can't sing it, you shouldn't... well, I've changed my attitude a bit. Here's why: Last week I had a female backup vocalist come to the studio to lay down some voca...
