Re: Emo

if I may come late to the game and bitch a little, I have a problem with "genres" of music that basically sound like they were all influenced by one band and of that one band, they're influenced basically by one song. A genre like "emo" can have it's good bands, and bad bands, like any scene. My pro...

Best deals on snakes?

following up on my HD24 thread, I was wondering if anyone had a favorite place to buy snakes.

We're going to need 12 8 channel balanced 1/4" snakes. I think the best we've found was somewhere around $45-50 each. I could make my own, but I want to use it this year :)

Re: Alesis HD24 opinions

Thanks for the input, folks. The studio has been running ADAT XTs, and a Digi001 rig for years. I had been using the XTs as converters to get into ProTools, but I've always been bummed that the ADATs were 16 bit. I've also been running the XTs unbalanced and with the HD24, we'll be switching to a ba...

Alesis HD24 opinions

We're about to pick up an HD24 to replace three aging ADAT XTs. Anyone here have any thoughts on them? I'm looking forward to going 24bit after years of 16.

Anyone have any problems with them?

I haven't heard the new record, but I will take this opportunity to say that Josh Freese rocks.

Funny funny man.

Oh, and amazing drummer.

Re: What Did You Work On Tonight?9-14-03

Finished mixing a demo for a cool Boston indie band called the Learning Curve. Great tunes. Very cool sound. Worked quickly with them. Today, vocal tracks with a singer-songwriter I've been working with off and on for a year or so. Tomorrow, starting a two day tracking session with another local alt...

Re: Behringer Lawsuit Info?

Removing part numbers is a strategy most often seen in products that violate someone else's intellectual rights, not the other way around. Or possibly if you use very bad quality parts, it's sometimes best to hide this from the customers. That seems odd that a company would spend the time/money to ...

Re: Favourite fuzz box?

The classic overdrive (not fuzz... oops) pedal is a ProCo RAT ; a stock Tube Screamer in comparison lacks bass and sounds "tinny". Not to be nitpicky, but a Rat isn't technically an overdriver either. It's more or less out to make your guitar sound like it's going through a Marshall JCM800 (as far ...

Re: Musictoyz.com: Oh brother!

I think a lot of the sound files are from the manufacturers. Otherwise, they'd have sound files for everything, I would think. I agree. 90% of all online soundfiles totally blow. So much so that it makes you wonder if great pedal and amp designers are just not allowed to be good musicians or enginee...

Re: Favourite fuzz box?

by the way, who makes a real authentic 60's style fuzz box fuzz? . Lots of folks do. The Fuzz Face is very much a 60's circuit, and there are lots of those variants out there. The Voodoo Labs Bosstone (out of production, but you can find them used) is a raspy any bugle style garagey fuzz (copies a ...

Re: Favourite fuzz box?

so Catoogie, if that is your real name...pray tell, what is the defined difference between a fuzz and a distortion pedal in your own words. to my ears there are different overdriven harmonics in either/or's sound, but i think you'd better think again before saying that certain given pedals properly...

If you just need the switch, most any electronics supplier will have that.

If you need more help than that, email Steve Daniels at Small Bear. he'll help you out for sure.

Re: Boston/Northampton Rics?

Mr. Music might be a good place to look. Blue Note in Northampton has some cool vintage stuff, but it's small and I've never seen a Ric there.

I'll ask my friends at Music Mall (a small chain in MA) if they have any in the chain.

Re: Jazzmaster p/u covers

I have never ever seen black jazzmaster covers. If Fender ever made them, they probably made ten of them for custom jobs or prototypes. You could paint white ones, but that will eventually scratch off. You could paint them and put a thin piece of clear plastic over the top to protect them. You could...
