I just downloaded issue #90 (the current issue that still hasn't found its way to me by snail mail). One thing I really like about the on-line version is that I can make the font as big as my old eyes want it.

Thanks, Justin. I'd be interested to read about your experience mixing in Auria. Hope you get your hands on it soon.

Most of the time I'm going to use this to record live shows or bands all playing together in the room (no headphones)--won't have to worry about latency. The lowest it goes is 128 samples. When I'm recording myself, I don't find the latency a problem. I get less latency with my 2007 MacBook Pro 2.14...

You can get 16 in with a Lynx Aurora on the higher end of the interfaces that work with Auria.

Auria: 48 track 24 bit DAW on the iPad

I decided to purchase Auria http://www.auriaapp.com for the iPad ($50) and got a Presonus 1818VSL interface to use with it. I've also got a Steinberg MR816x that I plan to use in standalone mode to get another 8 tracks in by lightpipe for some live show recording. I plan to record a rehearsal next w...

Call up The Mandolin Store--those folks are really great. They do a nice setup job on everything they sell which is essential for less expensive imports. The Loars have a good reputation as do Eastmans and Kentucky's. I'd call them up, tell them what kind of music you want to play, and see what they...

Hard to beat the PE OktavaMod 012, IMHO, if you get a used 012 for around $100 and have it modded. I also like my PE OktavaMod 219 that I bought used already modded--very ribbon-like without the low output/impedance issues. It sounds great on mandolin. Check out the AKG C1000 mod by Mark Fouxman (Sa...

Potluck Con

Were all participants sworn to secrecy? Thought we'd hear something about it. Maybe too busy partying around the pool?

Ear Trumpet Labs Microphones

I don't know how they sound, but they sure look cool, especially the one using the bicycle sprocket. Anyone have any of these?

At bluegrass festivals, I've seen a lot of basses mic'ed with a 57 wrapped in foam or cloth, stuffed under the strings between the tailpiece and the bridge, pointed up at the bridge.

Another Axiom M2 user here. With an Adcom 535, they tell me all I need to know for the acoustic music I do.

Shure SR440 headphones to double check then the car stereo and a friend's boombox and Apple earbuds.

Thank you indeed!!! We need more people like Pete LaBonne in the world.

Have you ever come across mandolin legend Frank Wakefield in Saratoga Springs? I know he has played Cafe Lena and the Parting Glass. He's a wild man too. You would enjoy him.

Thanks for posting those, Joel. Good morning listening. Enjoyed his songwriting and performances, although the keyboard doesn't do much for me. Do you know what pickup/preamp he's running the acoustic guitar through? Sounds really good.
