I use whatever boss or stomp box tuner I have lying around. I see a lot of people tuning incorrectly and it always bugs me. The best way to tune is to always tune up in pitch as opposed to down. Start by softly plucking the string ONCE and letting the tuner LEDs or needle settle into finding the pit...

Question for the live sound guys
Hey folks. Here's what I have and here is the problem. I have a 2 way (x over) PA system with a QSC 4050HD driving the subs and a QSC 2450HD driving the tops both going to a DBX drive rack multi processor and all of it is powered by one of those $150.00 furmans. When I turn on the system, I have to ...

It sounds to me like a choice between gaining experience recording bands or gaining experience fetching someone a double latte. No question, I would take the smaller studio gig. If you do, take it upon yourself to make the place rule. Fix the broken shit. Bring in cool bands. Record yourself. Sounds...

Easy. Just get the one you like that has the 4 1/4' tips on the fan end then snip em and solder on the xlrs. As long as the 1/4' ends are TRS your golden.
If you dont care to solder, order one from gepco international. They can custom make you exactly what you want.

taking a delicate live mix into my own hands Is not a good idea if you are one of the players. Too much to think about when all you really want to do is play well. I would hire your own sound engineer instead. Also, if you are mixing acoustic instruments with drums and electric intstuments, then yo...

Whenever I have the problem of hearing a nice sounding amp in the room but for whatever reason, my ususal selection of cardioid dynamics, ribbons or condensers are translating it strangely, my stapes omni in pretty close miced ususally solves the problem. Do you have access to an omni mic? Condenser...

Really dark meaty sounding ribbons like a Coles or a B&O or even an one of those Octava black ribbons that Guitar Center use to sell make for a more old school sounding mando. They also tend to work better if the player has rather suspect chops. Like me... I actually like slower tube preamps for man...

stick every single acoustic guitar (or any acoustic stringed instrument for that matter) on stands and all tuned to various notes within the key and relative minor key/s of the song and stick the whole lot into the vocal booth with the singer and mic. Try an omni on the singer to capture both the si...

Distorted bass can be really cool but it really depends on the kind of distortion it is. Ive recorded distroted bass a lot with punk rock bands and more spacey rock bands and have had good luck with getting well defined bass tones through the distortion and not having too much trouble distinguishing...

So with a mic on top and a mic on bottom, are you supposed to flip the phase on the bottom mic? Not always the bottom mic. It depends on the snare mics relationship to the overheads. Sometimes flipping the bottom will do it, sometimes flipping the top will be better. A/B em with your overhead fader...
