Is it possible to create the feel of a room in a DAW?

So the biggest thing I miss being an all DAW recording musician is the sound of a room on my tracks. I listen to some of my favorite records by the Bad Seeds, Tom Waits, and Neil Young, and all the tracks have the feel of being in the room they were tracked in. Even if the tracks were overdubbed in ...

No biggie, it's in my neighborhood and it was still good to get out. I was just hoping to meet some more local recording enthusiasts. I've been here a little over a year and have not met many people. Like many, I just work too damn much. I'll do my best to be at the next one. Perhaps we should set a...

So I guess I'm the only one who said they were going that showed up?

Hmmm... Not the best meet and greet I've ever been to, but fortunately a friend met me there, and there was another lone Tape Opper that we managed to pick out.

A bit of a disappointment....

The Jesus Lizard-Goat

I liked a lot of his recordings, but that is the Gold Master Standard in my opinion.

I liked The Jesus Lizard's Liar a lot, and the PJ Harvey recording, and Mule's If I Don't Six.

But Goat stands the test of time like so few recordings do.

What are your skills? Are you a mac or a PC guy?

The coffee shops and other places in the hawthorne area are always hiring.
I doubt it pays much.

Powell's might be good place for someone new in town to apply.

Not to be a voice of dissent, but I am passive-agressively dissenting for Saturday night. :-) My wife and I have a date Friday night, and with two young kids we *rarely* get dates. it is an early date, however, but I probably wouldn't be able to rear my ugly head in town until around 10. The follow...

Lucky Lab is perfect for me.
I'd vote for a Friday.

Weekdays are more appealing than weekends IMO.

I know we're talking hardware here, but since we seem to have strayed into the digital domain, I have to mention this; http://www.audiodamage.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=9 $39 This is by far the most fun I've had with a plug in months. I worked on a remix recently and substituted this f...

I've been happy with all my SX 3 bounce mixes.

I did my last record at 32 and 24 bit/48k. It worked out well.

If I load more than a few plugs on a channel, and find after a few days that I'm happy with the sound, I bounce it to a new track (not frozen) then mute the old track and bypass the plugs.

Wow, sounds like they gave you one of the new models, but...

I hate to be the spoiler here, but there are no G5's with that many expansion slots.

That's cool about the upgraded RAM and drives.

Nice tracks. Could use a little more tape delay... but then again what song couldn't use a little more tape ...

In one of the books, or maybe a video I saw someone was talking about the topic exactly, mixing the bass in last. I believe the equation was that without the bass mixed in, the whole mix should be at -2 on the VU. With the bass in it should bring it up to 0 on the VU. I've tried to keep this in mind...
