Re: calibration
If it were in the manual I wouldn't be asking. They only call for 1 Khz adjustment. There's no mention of a 10Khz adjustment, I've seen several people on here recommend that a 10Khz adjustment be done and it makes sense. All I need someone to tell me is "what set of screws do I turn on my Otari MX 5...

Re: calibration
Another question: I've seen it recommended that when aligning, you should use the 1Khz MRL tape tone, make necessary adjustment and then do the same using the 10K tone. WHERE on an older MX5050, NOT MkIII, do you make this 10K adjustment? What set of calibration screws are used? You guys have helped...

Excellent! Thank You, that is precisely what I wanted to know! Like I said, clearer than the manual. Thanks.

Re: calibration
ok, one last question. I don't wanna piss anyone off who's answered these questions a million times already, but honestly you guys give clearer answers than I get out of my manual. My manual calls for 185nWb/m NAB. Is there a problem with me using a MRL tape that is 250nWb/m IEC2 (NAB)? What effect ...

Re: calibration
So it's my choice if I use NAB or IEC, not what the machine dictates that it needs to be set to?

Re: calibration
I did a search and found some threads that were similar, but didn't have the answers to my specifics. I did search first, be it known! If anyone can point me to threads I missed, I'd appreciate it.

Re: calibration
I was gonna start my own thread on calibration, but I'll just jump on this one since it's here. I have a Mx 5050 8 track NOT mk III. My manual says to align to 185 nWb/M NAB. Do I have to do this? I don't even see MRL tapes for 185 nWb/m. Is NAB obsolete? Looks like I should be using IEC1 instead. I...

Re: Pin 3 Hot for MTR 10 isn't enough....
How old is your Otari? On my 5050, the terminology used seems somewhat backwards. "Line" is actually a balanced XLR and "Mic" is a 1/4" phone plug. Weird. I'm facing the same dilemma, only I haven't gotten a snake with the 2 & 3 pins reversed yet. Glad I waited.

otari remote question
Does the MX 5050 (original, split transport/support electronics model) use the same remote as a Mark III? Thanks.

Re: "Wall of Sound"
first you need more reverb than anyone should anyone have, for any reason. Next you need a beatle doing a solo record so you can thoroughly fuck it up and ruin it forever. If no solo beatle project is available for misguidance, in place of that you can substitute an entire beatles mix which you can...
