Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I've decided that member vvv dominates the gear acquisition thread. His combo of GAS and an eye for bargains is unstoppable.

Re: Recording Vocal Tracks without headphones
I always made sure to keep the monitor volume the same so punches never sounded different. This would be very hard for me. I seem to adjust monitor levels compulsively without noticing. I do too, that's why I mentioned it. It's a common thing for me, hear something I'm not sure of, turn it up a tad...

Re: Let's talk about layering vocal harmonies
^ This also can be instructive (if not a little time consuming) sometimes hearing a harmony as a note choice, as well as a solid pitch can light the way for us non choir types.

Re: Let's talk about layering vocal harmonies
If it's supposed to be a rich, mini choir type of oohs and aaahs I'd just as soon do it myself and mix it dark, go easy on consonants etc. If it's to be a close harmony, up front vibe like Simon and Gfunk you need an A+ ringer or a B+ one who's rehearsed the stuff. I could see trying your pitch shif...

Re: Opinions on GameChanger Audio Plasma Pedal on sources other than guitar
But crusher is a pretty different thing, but as for overdrive I've had the best luck with the "ranges from clean boost to full saturation" type pedals. I have a Catalin Bread Dirty Little Secret always hooked up to an aux send. I've used it to give a clean bass more attention in a mix, to gently sat...

Re: how much snare do you want (or not want) in your overheads
Yeah, I usually am cool with plenty of snare in the overheads, it's the hi hats that are a problem. But I know how when brushes or mallets come out things can go a lot different in the drum mix. For your problem I would explore eq and compression of the overheads. Like something fast and only grabbi...

Re: A drum bus compressor odyssey
As I've often done over the last 25 years, I said "what would Tchad Blake do?" I copied the snare track, put that through the Pulverizer (an absolutely stupid compressor/distortion thingie on the Reason Rack plugin) and blended a bit of that back in and HOT DAMN it worked perfectly, thickened every...

Re: Burl B32 Vancouver vs RND 5057
Or you can get a cheap utility mixer (A&H) and get your color from your outboard/plugins. The used market for not hype 24/4/2 (and similar) boards is crazy cheap.

Re: A drum bus compressor odyssey
Totally not the same shid as you're searching for, but I've really come to enjoy the SoundToys Decapitator on stuff, and a combo of that, more compression and EQ, I can usually get something that works well for adding teeth or ignorance to something. Make it fucking caveman brutal, or just make it ...

A drum bus compressor odyssey
Apologies, this is a bit of a Gear Lusty post, but I don't really enjoy the GearSpace crowd so I thought I'd share here and see what some of y'all think of this journey in outboard stereo compression. The parallel drum thing- I have come to really like it. I mix a lot of muscular rock music and it's...

Overhead stand hardware (4038)
I'm looking for hardware I've seen in people's studio shots that would allow a Coles 4038 capsule to be positioned perpendicular to the floor i.e. straight down. I can get close with some high right angles on my stands but working way harder than some nice setups I've seen with the pair extending do...

Re: Connecting an old Lynx Aurora to a modern PC
Perhaps I should also start learning REAPER as well... The price is right, and so far it lives up to the hype. Everything I can think of wanting it to do, it can do. It's just a matter of finding it. So far I've just been layering speaking tracks and panning, effecting, grouping, eq'ing. I hear it ...

Re: Connecting an old Lynx Aurora to a modern PC
much respect to you losthighway for not getting caught up in the capitalistic "must upgrade" movement propagated by the software/hardware companies. Once a decade is pretty insane upgrade wise. Also it makes one question the needs for upgrades if 10 year old equipment is still doing the job. Totall...
