FS or FT: Fender Clapton Sig Strat and Peterson Strobostomp

Hey gang, I've got two great items here: The Strat is in fantastic shape with a bit of normal playing wear. 98% of the frets left, a little of the gold type worn off the pickups, you get the picture. An extremely good player with that nice V-neck. Looking for $850. The Peterson is another great item...

Re: Review: Mackie 400F

Someone requested a review of the 400F, so I thought I'd share my experiences. At the time, I was recording on a PowerBook G4, 1.33gHz, with 1.25 gig of ram, into Logic. Converters I have great history with mediocre gear. Let's see: m audio delta 44, m audio quattro, m audio delta 1010, presonus fi...

Re: building a bedroom studio

Rode - K2 (voice) Shure - SM81 (classical guitar or other acoustic instruments) Neumann - TLM103 (voice) Josephson - C42 (guitar or other acoustic instruments) /quote] I'm piecing together a similar setup, and recently had the opportunity to try a great many really fantastic mics. I can't say I rec...

I have a Vipre and it is indeed a frickin great preamp. Most people seem to really like the Brick and the Ditto as well (I've never tried either of those). I just wonder what combination of those products it will be. A brick with more gain and bells and whistles? A less nice vipre? Something else e...

Just try to be more grateful for free advice as opposed to complaining when it doesn't immediately get posted. At the risk of turning this into a "flame-war" or whatever let me say this: I think the spirit of this board is non-judgmental comradery in recording. There's a degree of civility here that...

Damn man. What is this sense of utter entitlement you have? Like people are doing you a disservice or breaking a promise by not responding to your incredibly vague question. Were you an only child? Chill out. Anyway, while I've never used it, the RNP seems to be the consensus in the sub-500 bang for...

Now I am beginning the learning curve of mixing and it is much more difficult than tracking. The whole "mixing" thing has become a dodge to cover for shlubs that can't track worth a shit. One of my absolute favorite Steve Albini quotes from his essay The Problem with Music is: "Tape machines ought ...

Oh thanks Tony. Yes, the producer with the "Name" would be $300 a day and $300 for the Neve room.... I guess I was naive about what other people charge for thier studios... It sounded like a lot to me... Just think about yourself 5 years from now. Would you rather have the upgraded equipment that y...

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes, for all the reasons you describe. After spending so much time recording and tinkering with a song you don't hear it like anyone else. It's good to get it through at least a new set of ears if not a new room, console, etc. With the 300 dollar figure are you thinking of hiring...

Jeff Buckleys Grace was tracked live, one of my favorite albums. I have a really hard time believing that. Evidence? Also, I know that the famous version of "Hallelujah" on there is a couple of takes edited together (at least that's what is says in the very well researched "Dream Brother" book). PS...

I'll second this. He did a great job on my LP. Not too pricey either. For 10 songs, about 35 minutes of music I recall it being 450-500 dollars. Not a steal, but not too bad either.

Mike Mogis is freaking awesome! Has anyone checked out his studio's website? ( www.prestorecording.com ) Hasn't been updated since '02 but has a lot of cool pics of the different control rooms, live room, etc. Man, just picked up Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Would you listen to the percussion on s...

just out of curiosity...why you have pretty much settled on a mackie interface? it's kind of like settling for 10th best. Cetanorak- Yeah, I'm interested in the rack version. If that's an oversize dongle I might be missing something. I've never gotten the appeal of the regular one other than you ge...
