Maybe check out the Boss RE-20 too - it's their Space Echo in a pedal and the guitar player for the band I'm working with right now is using one. Has Tap Tempo and sounds really cool. You can find them for about the same price as the green Line 6 but I'll bet the Boss has a longer lifespan.

Just got mine about a month ago, so I can't give an in depth analysis, but here's what I've experienced so far... Already mentioned, but - outside kick drum is great. My starting kick drum setup almost every time now is e602 in, Peluso 2247LE out, and NS10 subkick. Female vocals - wow! The clarity i...

Totally depends on the session, and I'm generally working on a Trident TSM with two stereo sends, 2 mono sends, and 24 group sends, but it'll usually look something like this: Aux 1/2 - Bricasti M7 Reverb Aux 3 - Spring Reverb (either a Master Room MR-2 or an AKG BX-10) Aux 4 - Echoplate III plate r...

I'll play! Mic technique/placement is can vary pretty radically from session to session, but these mics are my go-to. Sometimes I'll use all of these and other times only a few, but I'll probably have all of them at the ready. If something's not working then I'll have my reference point already set....

Just recorded a string quartet last night (two violins, viola, cello) and ended up with some normal and not so normal mic placement. My usual (67 about two feet over the violin pointed almost straight down) worked fine as did the Crowley and Tripp Soundstage Image about a foot or two in front of the...

Yes, mic from below! I worked with a singer-songwriter about a year ago that mainly played autoharp. Best sound we got was always a pair of omni condensors (AKG 452's with ck2 omin capsules) placed a few inches below and a few inches out from the edges of the instrument.

WTB: Oktava MC012 Capsule or FS: Oktava MC012 Body/Preamp

I have an Oktava MC-012 body/preamp that functions perfectly. The cardioid capsule took a hit from a drumstick and now sounds thin and distorted. I'm interested in either buying a capsule (any capsule that works with it- cardioid, omni, or hypercardioid) or if someone's intersted in buying the body/...

Had a batch of two reels that smelled identical - like a meth lab. We kept the door to the machine room closed so it wasn't too bad, but every time I had to go to change the reel or splice in some leader it felt like I was getting high. Also, terrible print through. Total bummer.

You mentioned being interested in figure eight dynamics... Well, I've got a weird one, the Beyer M380. It's a figure eight, medium/large diaphragm dynamic. Supposedly one of Albini's favorite kick mics. I like it on bass cabs and horns (tenor sax in particular). Never seen one before I grabbed mine ...

Had vocalist a year or so back that needed a hand held and moved around a lot. We went through the usuals 57 and 58 (reg and beta), then onto a little more abnormal 421, e609, and then finally ended up loving the Audix i5. For this vocalist it rejected a lot of the handling noise, had less pops and ...

Sunn Coliseum! I love mine. It's loud as hell, built sturdy, and has great tone. They're usually around or under $500. Just make sure you get one of the early ones actually made in Portland. The ones with the shiny red knob centers are not made nearly as well nor do they sound as good (they'll say m...
