"as our landlord wants to eventually put in central air" - you don't really believe that do you? Sorry to be so blunt!
Why not seal the room from all air leaks and put in a small, energy efficient AC wall unit in the window?

+1 on the Audio Technica ATH-M50's! We used various models of AKG and Sennheiser's headphones until these came in to test and the results were amazing. Although, to be honest, I wouldn't recommend ANY brand of headphones for "mixing." However, if I "HAD TO" mix on headphones, I would use this pair:...

I like the term "natural" over "transparent." It's easy to hear when something has been hyped in some way. Natural or transparent isn't often the choice people in my retail experience when presented with sound A or sound B. Most often people express a desire for "warm" or "tube." Some prefer "neutr...

A lightning strike took out the inboard power supply of my M101. Sent it back to Grace and they fixed it no charge. Nice folks.
WoW ! That's great! Good to know.

Re: Better than SM58 for vocals but not too sensitive?

Can you recommend a vocal mic that will capture more of the subtleties and detail of a voice without being so sensitive they pick up too much background noise in my less than perfectly soundproofed studio? YES I CAN. The Telefunken M80 Dynamic Microphone. http://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/pr...

Both of those monitors are very good! The Adams are a bit more neutral. I would find a dealer that will let you get both pair and return the set you don't like as much. It's really the only way to know for sure what you want to hear and work with. You'll get a ton of opinions, but hearing and testi...

I would stick with the Carvin SDC's for overhead use.
You keep mentioning that your looking for a "bigger sound" so my questions are:

#2. What are you using for the compressor settings? (Kick)

http://www.audiopile.net/ navigate to EWI CABLES then PATCH SNAKES then to the type of cable your looking for. These cables are great and they "spell out the specs" in black and white. No guessing about quality. Durable and noise free. No problems here. The cable your looking for is $45. + shipping....
