Do you use reference songs for communicating, mixing, etc?
When I go into the studio to record I often have a hard time expressing what it is that I want the song to sound like. I don't play in a band and it is up to me (while considering the advice of the engineer and other players) to determine what the song should sound like. I play acoustic guitar prima...

I never make any real progress on my own. well, there's some progress but not enough and not consistently enough. Actually, I take that back. there's no real progress. I go into a proper studio and I walk away with a rough mix. Scheduling a session forces me to get serious and commit to the song for...

Hey Thanks. I want to get a new mixer. I'm trying to limit the old gear I have. The 238 is old enough. I also want a real clean transparent board. I figure the 238 will add enough "color". I was reading about the Mackie's and they seem to be able to accept both balanced and unbalanced signals and th...

Tascam 238 - What mixer?
Hi all, I'm buying a Tascam 238 in a few days. I need a mixer. I want to purchase a new mixer and I've been looking at the Allen and Heath Mix Wizards. However, I'm concerned about connecting the two. As I understand it the 238 is -10 unbalanced ins/outs. I can't find anything about whether the MixW...

I'm relatively handy, and I am in the process of building my project space. Here's the conclusion I've come to: Hire a pro, unless you are looking for the experience. Here's why: If you don't have all the tools already, you'll nickel and dime yourself the whole way through the project. Plus, what a ...

Whiney AT-RMX 64?
Just got my hands on an audio-technica at-rmx 64. Its a four track cassette monster. 54 pounds, built like it was meant for something serious. I've had a lot of four tracks, but this thing is crazy. Anyway, the thing is in pristine condition. I got all the original manuals--glossy, color ones. No di...

microphone companies
I was just browsing Shure's website. Seems they have a lot of mics for different purposes. If a mic becomes popular do other companies rip it off. So, do Shure, Sennheiser, AT, etc, all have the same mics (more or less) as the other guy? I'm a bit of an OCD consumer, easily overwhelmed by choices. S...

Haha, no this is not a trick question. I have not freakin idea about the best way to connect a mic to a quarter inch jack. Options that I know of: 1. xlr to 1/4 inch cable 2. one of those adapter things (xlr to xlr to 1/4 inch adapter) 3. direct box I don't know if I'm going to have impedance issues...

What mic adapter to use with a Tascam 244
Hey all,
I just got a tascam 244. The inputs are 1/4 only. Of course, all my mics are xlr. What did people do back then? I know I could by those xlr/1/4 adapters, but...
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
