depends how "cool" people think they are in your locale. they should be cheap, but there's a hip factor priced in sometimes...

if you want a tight, almost chorusy effect, then use the same mic setup, and try to sing it exactly the same. if you want more of a big mush effect, you may have to vary it a bit, and track many times.

danelectro, yes. the newer ones are excellent and cheap. hohner also makes some very good and inexpensive copies of classics. i had an electric archtop for a while that was really solid. teiscos can be really good too, but they vary a lot, so make sure you get a good one. not a huge fan of silverton...

say you have a pre that sounds real nice but doesn't have enough gain. do you use it anyway and then run it into a second mic pre or line amp for a few more dBs?

well, you definitely want to avoid sending loud pops to your speakers. so put the amp on standby before plugging or unplugging a guitar cable, mute your monitor speakers before powering up or down other equipment, etc.

the main difference between fiberglass and foam is that the fiberglass absorbs better at lower frequencies. if you're just trying to kill a flutter problem in the mids or highs, foam will do fine. for general deadening, and especially for help with low end problems (which almost all of us not workin...

I find DP's dynamics plugin quite usable. But i still find it worth the trouble to send tracks out to my RNC. It gives the track more shape, and can do more drastic stuff than the dynamics plug. I use the plug all the time, but only when i basically like the way a track sounds and feels but need it ...

i sorta doubt mic choice is your problem here. sounds like you don't like the sound of the bass side. maybe a different (farther?) placement, or maybe an adjustment to the player's technique is called for.
