Re: Double tracking lead vox

I have been working with this alot on a recent song and am right now finalising the submix for these. I have always tried this on my own work as my singing isn't always the strongest, especially in certain keys. For me, the thing is that you can easily get carried away and then the vocal sound is ju...

Re: Shania Twain

while i was driving across tennesee last week and I brought no fucking tapes with me, but I got to experience the def leppard on one station and shania on the next station syndrome. it was funny to hear the similarities... they have the same formula... just shania's had a fiddle and a pedal steel. ...

Re: Chorus pedals...

I think chorus can be cheesy too, but I found a very good one that is more subtle and can do some weird sounds too. It is a Rockton Tsunami. It actually has 2vswitchable modes. One is real subtle, and such a bit of delay. The other is a great sounding analog chorus. Very well built. They have change...

Who knew what I was missing?

I thought "White Noise Supremists" were a cool band with a cool record I should check out.

Re: Audio Equipment and Airport Security

I travel quite a bit with some basic stuff for a laptop rig (Laptop, soundcard, 2 channel pre, 2 mics, cables, pedals, etc.). Usually not a problem. It seems mostly when they want me to open the bag up it is b/c of the mics and/or guitar pedals. Funny story. I moved from NYC to Richmond recently and...

Re: Worst guitar tones ever

Other than the 80's metal sounds -- I listen to some old tapes, or something comes on the radion, and like, you can't even hear the guitar behind the wal of reverb, chorus, delay. I have ALYWAYS HATED the sounds on the smooth jazz songs. That may be obvious I guess. But I hate all the fusion sounds ...

Re: Favorite bass guitar

Is it wrong to be in love with a bass? I picked up a Fretless Godin Acoustibass. It is unbelievable, especially given the price I paid -- $370. It has an LR Baggs p/u and preamp. Its sound has an upright feel to it (that is what is designed for) which I use it for most of the time. But also, I have ...

Re: Best soundtrack ever

My all time favorite is Howard Shore and Ornette Coleman's soundtrack from Naked Lunch. It fits the movie atmosphere and story amazinginly and stands alone as a great piece of work. Unreal. Here is my view on the Last Temptation of Christ. It is a great score for every movie, EXCEPT the LToC. Don't ...

Re: Hardware interface?!?

+2 for the RME Multiface

Mine has been rock solid. I am listening to some cd's and mp3's through it right now for the first time and I can't believe all that I wasn't hearing before.

Listening to Low's "(That's How You Sing) Amazing Grace" is now truly a religious experience now

Nope, different wedding --I guess June is a popular time for weddings -- the bride and groom to be are Emily and Brett -- I think there will be lots of music types there too. Have fun!

Wow - I am lame.

I figured, "I know, I'll post on tapeop about Nashville. For some reason I think tapeop-ers will have some cool ideas" -- I wonder where got that strange idea:

Re: Things to do in Nashville when you're dead?

Thanks for the replies. I am getting hungry now. I will get the scene - I am going for a wedding and I think they are giving it to out-of-towners. I seem to remember way back an article with Larry talking about a trip in Nashville (unless I am on crack) and some mythical place to eat, that someone t...

Things to do in Nashville when you're dead?

OK, not really dead. I believe there are some folks on the site that are familiar or live in Nashville. I will be there for a few days this weekend (Sat-Mon). Wanted to see if anyone had some good recommendations? Music stores, venues, bands playing, bars, food!!, chicken shacks (mmmm chicken), etc....

Re: Chaining devices with SPDIF?

As for the splitting, there is no simple splitter, you would instead need a distribution amp. Digital does weird things when you split it with Y-cords - digital satellite for example ends up with odd transponders on one box and even ones on the other. If you need any more help, just ask. -Jeremy Do...

Re: Best Jazz Album Recorded?

I can't get enough of Miles' and Gil Evans' Porgy & Bess. The notes all have this little warm halo around them. Perfect. The first time I heard this album when I was a teenager I almost lost my sh*t. I couldn't believe how much emotion and passion there was. And at times it is HEAVY (I was into meta...
