I don't think there's a fundamental gear problem here. Seems like the pres on that Tascam don't have a ton of headroom, so you're maxed out trying to reach the desired level. But the good news is you're getting more level than you need into the DAW, so here's a suggestion. If you can inch off the ga...

I'm gonna let someone else take over here cuz I feel this is getting to the point where I'm possibly not understanding the issue. Perhaps that 244 has lousy preamps - I wouldn't know - in which case, you could try using an external preamp instead. Just make sure you keep the gain on your 244 channel...

I'm guessing the 244 has a mic pre on each channel, and that it's the red knob and it may in fact be called "gain." That's your mic pre. If you're getting a low signal you can experiment with moving the mic closer to the source, pointing the mic at different parts of the guitar, playing louder, miti...

I'm using an Echo Audiofire 8. It works fine with Pro Tools -- that is, as fine as Pro Tools will allow itself to function with third-party hardware. (grr....) It has two pres on the front. If you need more built in pres, they have one with eight. If don't need integrated pres I'd consider the Audio...

I hear you. I love their stuff. It sparkles and moves in such interesting ways. They've leaned heavily on sampled drum sounds before, but they're more of a 'band' now (started as a 'project') so hopefully going forward things will move towards a more organic sound. Their particular approach to polym...

See what I mean about the swing feel? I like how the 3 smooths out the 7-- it doesn't have that jerky, angular quality odd meters can have. I don't know why polymeters aren't more prevalent in Western music... they pretty much compel you to move your body, but are a lot more interesting than the HE...

But, the words "retard" and "retarded" still have completely acceptable and non-offensive uses. So, I think it's a little insulting to me, as an adult, to be expected to refer to them as "the R word". Not really. "Retard" is a verb, used in music to connote slowing tempo. It is not used much in mod...
