TRANSLATOR audio/ The SOUTH SOUND: Destroyed
It is a very sad day for Brooklyn and audio. Andrew Schneider has lost his ENTIRE studio to hurricane sandy here in NYC... Studio G and other pals, like the bunker, came through without major losses... but The South Sound, and Translator audio were COMPLETELY destroyed. Completely. Please, if you ca...

I fly with miss all the time. Just go early. I have a couple of pelican cases I use, with cutouts for each mic. Remember how much just vibration can put wear marks on things.... having toured a LOT in vans back in the day... anything rubbing up against anything else for ling enough makes a mark. So ...

I have a band with Carla Kihlstedt, who is a known quantity in the violin world... and aside from an electric violin, which is a whole other beast, the best thing I have seen is a small countryman lag mic placed in whatever spot the violinist feels is good. It is always a compromise, but I have hea...

I use the filter factory ALL the time. High pass with a slight LFO moving it around after a spring verb? YEP, this is the box for the job. Tempo sync (VIA MIDI) low pass on a vocal delay with RECALL (VIA MIDI TRACK in the session) yep... I use the MOFX for the same reason. It recalls with the sessio...

I really wanted to buy some weird or crazy reverbs but I never found anything cool except a valve verb I missed out on. I still plan on getting a cool springs at some point. To me its the combination that matters... like an old SPX 90 into a pair of speakers in the live room as a "chamber" of sorts...

The old TC boxes like the M2000 kill for short reverbs. I used "tiled room" on mine or "gold plate" like on EVERYTHING for years... I have been using some bizarre roland and yamaha boxes lately for verb and delay and totally LOVING them. Both are inexpensive and both are totally kicking my butt... e...

Every SSL "type" compressor I have is different, and all good at certain things. The one IN my SSL is different than the original SSL FX384 compressor in a rack, or the Camilo Silva custom 4000E clone built from scratch( ! ) or even the smart C2.... SO each one is worthy of owning, as one will wind ...

Where's Joel to answer all the questions he stirred up? He *should* have put this in the big thread by the logic expressed here. I didn't stir anything up. I posted about a compressor I really like. I posted about a piece of GEAR. Talking about gear we all like in GEAR TALK is still okay, even afte...

Hello there. This compressor has been something I am completely psyched to have in the rack over the last few months. I have been mixing a ton of stuff (rather than tracking), and the FED+ has wound up on everything from Pretty lights to Plastic ono band.... It does the "destroyed thing" WAY better ...

Schmidlin FED+ compressor
Get hip to this box. The Schmidlin FED+ compressor. I have two federal compressors. Originals. One has UTC's in it and a lot of love... paper in oil caps, all the good stuff... the Schmidlin is being used on all the stuff I am mixing this summer... I used it on Yoko one's vocals.... I used it on Igg...

There is a guy named carl farrugia here in Brooklyn that makes a REALLY nice switcher box. I use that. its four selections, and more than one can be selected at a time, so if you have a sub that you want to use with more than one set of speakers, you can just put it on the 4th output and run it with...
