Like many other responders, i too have found myself as engineer and performer in a small project studio setting. I find that it is best to A)be in a band with people that you get along with and consider friends, can be honest with, and share an idea of what it is you're trying to do with your band, ...

Topic: Why use a gate?

I've sometimes gated toms due to the hardware itself. For instance, a drummer i know, for some reason, his floor tom is consistently resonating even when left dormant of any stick hits. The problem is that it creates a very annoying low frequency hum on that channel, so i gate it. Just have to make ...

Tube microphone question

Hey all I have a mxl v77 and i like the sound, its much warmer than my other mics, and when paired with my bellari tube pre, it's warmer than i wish for. My question is simple.. Everyone says you need to give a tube mic about 30 minutes or so to warm up.. Well, my v77 doesn't sound any different if ...

This is a question for you guys using the shiny box 46 what kind of gain are you applying to the mic? Obviously ribbon's take a bit more gain (hopefully clean), and i read over on the gearslutz forum that the shiny box gentleman was putting around 60db to the 23s, with overs, and since the 46 is a h...

Condensors & Guitar Cabs

Hey guys
looking for advice on picking up a couple of condensors to use for guitar cabinets (probably along with 57s), that would also be beneficial in other applications, like room or overheads.

Between $300 used
and something like a used AT4050

thanks folks

Anyone use AT4033's for overheads or Room

Just curious if anyone uses AT4033 for anything other than guitar cabs...specifically room mics, and their opinions.
Thanks

That's a good idea, which i have accomplished to much titilation. However, i'd like to know what exactly is happening when i turn a depth knob, what am i doing when i crank a frequency knob, etc. I'm under the impression that understanding the reason for something occuring is helpful in learning how...

Digital Delay

Hey all....kind of DAW question, kind of universal I've never used a digital delay, either plug-in or rack unit, and i was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good resource to explain what all the various knobs/dials do, and how to use them together to best utilize a piece of gear....I've read ...

Condensor Kick Drum

Hey all
just curious...is anyone using a large diaphragm condensor on their kick drum?
whether it be along with a dynamic or not?
If so, what kind, why, and how are you setting it up/blending it in the mix?
Just interested in the idea is all

I have been starting my mixes by doing a solid drum mix with proper eq and compression. Then i buss the drum mix to t...
