I believe it is (the iron butterfly thing).
I was just listening to some of Kyuss's last album, they seem to have a knack for what I consider to be album dynamics. Making the whole album flow wonderfully from somg to song.

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
I agree, mixing in tracktion is a little difficult to get used to. Although I think it's gonna be my new program over n-track due to much better stability, plus I do like it a lot for ease of tracking, and lots of very cool features. One thing I don't like is the meters, the size for -3bd to -6db is...

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
The default placement of the level monitors is AFTER the volume control in the filter section. For tracking, move it BEFORE the volume control. Thanks a lot! I knew it was something easy like that. And wing, yeah i already disabled the stereo linking. Thats awesome! I wish sonar had that. Actually,...

Re: Whoa.... free Tracktion
Sorry if this is off topic for you all but I have a question for wing, or any other tracktion users. How come I can't get it to show clipping while tracking? My mixer is hot, my soundcard is clipping, but it's like Tracktion has a limiter on 0 db's, so I'm basically not able to monitir when it's cli...

They are pretty noisy compared to a lot of budget condensers.

I'm gonna have to say Epic by Faith No More, since I feel obliged to pick something from my generation.

Re: I need drum heads
That's a very vauge question. You really can't go wrong with much from remo or evan's. Depends on the sound you want and the kit you have. I'm guessing you probably have exports or something in which case I personally would just go with regular 1 ply heads on bottoms of toms, and two ply on top. The...

Re: metallica single on the radio
yeah not to mention that every song on that album sucks bad.
I think they got so much crap that they did a re-mix or something. Can't save those songs though. I bet they'll re-release it to try to sell more albums again.

Re: BASS mixing breakthrough techniques?
Well I'm not an advanced mixer by any means. I usually do the drums and bass first in a mix. Bass is one instrument where over-compression of sorts sounds good to me. Actually, one of my techniques that I recently tried and it worked very well is double compression. I compress it lightly at about 3:...

Hey man, sorry I'm probably not helping very much, but can't you just pan in your digital 8-track?

Re: small speakers?
I believe the radio shack speakers are RCA now. Same thing basically, you just gotta make sure to get the ones that are the minimus7 copies. They are nice, I mixed on those for a while, with sony mdr-7506 for referance, and when I got my monitors I could hear everything way more clearly, but I didn'...

Dropped my bass drum down the stairs. Cracked the resonant side hoop and bent a lug, got really lucky, it fell far and hard. Duct taped it up and actually it still sounds good.

Re: Sonic Maximizers
You could just boost 5k and compress, then turn the volume up. Those things don't work well for me. A good, home half-assed mastering job always sounds much better. But if you want to run your mixes through something that instantly makes them sound a little better, then I think the sonic maximizer i...
