they are supposed to sound better then the shure. Saying a mic sounds better then an SM57 is like saying XYZ brand of monitors sound better then NS-10s. Isn't the whole idea of these classic widely used mics is the fact that every engineer knows how to work with them. Pretty much any engineer knows...

One thing you can always do is build some short polarity reverse cables, I keep a couple l of them in my work box, they come in handy with a lot of smaller consoles, even the Midas Venice doesn't have polarity switches.
