reducing tape speed by using SRC

I have a tape of a wedding I need to transfer to CD, It was recorded at 3 3/4 ips. My AG440 only moves at 7 1/2 and 15 ips. I played back the tape at 7 1/2 ips and recorded the files into protools at 88.2KHz, and was wondering if there was a way to convert the sample rate down to 44.1 but still keep...

Yikes that hurts my head, so many knobs and menus. I thought that pocket pod looked kinds cool. http://line6.com/pocketpod/index.html If they made one that was just stripped down with no effects, and just a Gain, bass, mid, treble, master and like 3 or 4 amp modes I'd buy one to mess around with in ...

The ECC83 is what we in the US know as the 12AX7, the most common dual triode tube used in most guitar amps and audio gear today. Try www.tubesandmore.com you can get cheep chinese 12AX7's for about $6 all the way up to NOS GE, Mullards, Amperex, etc. If you don't want to go with the $$$ NOS tubes a...

most of the nick names I know aren't for gear necessarily but here goes... Edison = standard US 120/60Hz power Dime = turn up all the way WECO = long frame patch bay (Western Electric Co.) DJ plug = 1/4 male to RCA female converter PWM (physical wedge modifier) = Audio Block Audio Blocks = piece of ...

I get the feeling every time I go to the NAMM show. There is like 100000000 pieces of gear and like 3 things I would actually like to buy if they were about a 1/4 the price. I don't feel my gear is "good enough", I feel like it kicks ass! I am totally stoked on my gear! That said there are a few thi...

The "over sleazy" button can kill it sometimes. why do you say that? It was something a buddy of mine used to say. I'm not really a fan of the over easy on most things, but I like it on singers that just need a little compression, or on compressing a group of vocals, but most other things I think i...

i would get a DBX 160a, or 160x, or 160xt. I agree. I'm totally with both of you. You can find them for $200 used, and you really can't go wrong. Almost every live engineer in every club I've been to uses these on vocals. They are a great vocal compressor in any environment. The "over sleazy" butto...

I think back in the day stuff was bigger by necessity, so you had more room to lay out controls, knobs and meters. http://home.att.net/~btuttleman2/milradios.jpg Today so much stuff is small and has more features it's harder to make it look cool. Although I think Midas consoles look really cool and ...

thanks David!
The little knob is broken off, but I know what you are talking about I'll try and use some pliers and see if I can get it to move. Why isn't this in the 440 manual? I looked all over for it.

I've only mixed on the Spirit's, Europa, Series V, and Series IV but never on any of their recording consoles. If the recording consoles are anything like their FOH consoles then they can't bee to bad. Sorry if I wasn't any help. On a somewhat related topic those old UREI 1620 mixers that Soundcraft...

hmm I'm thinking if the transport is perfectly set up so that every roller and head was perfectly vertical, and the tension was adjusted so there would be no extra tension or pull to cause the tape to drift, but that gravity would hold it in place. It should work.

That said I wouldn't try it.

Heavy on the "kinda"
I like the 166 too, the gate and limiter can really come in handy. I end up using them a lot for live stuff like DI bass.

I've been buying all my tape on ebay. There's lots of used 2" 499 out there for $40-$80 a reel. I'm sure 1/2" is a little less prevalent, but if you don't mind going used which can be tricky as 456 kinda has a shelf life, but I would imagine all Q456 is still good.

I always kinda thought EH stuff was never really built "right". The flimsy cases, jacks and knobs that would break. Circuit boards just kinda hanging out. I mean the stuff sounds really cool, but especially the old Sovtek stuff was built like shit. Why can't I put a 9v into my Holy Grail, why does t...
