I second Kurt Ballou at God City. A band I know recorded with him and their record is heavy as hell.dfuruta wrote:Kurt Ballou (God City).

How can I convert Altiverb IR to Sound designer?
I'm wondering, is there a way to do this? I tried to rename the altiverb's IR to .sd2 .aif or .wav and logic (or even quicktime) won't recognize those files as valid audio files. What kind of audio format are they? Are they proprietary? Thanks

I'm sure there's a difference, I doubt it will be better. I was just looking into pressing vinyl for the first time, and I noticed at one place they charge more for working from digital files as opposed to a CDR or DAT tape. I'm assuming if I send 96khZ/24bit files I should get better results than ...

Pressing Vinyl from audio cd
I'm wondering if there's a difference in sound between a vinyl pressed from a audio cd and the original cd?

Cheap mics/Great pres ( Sage SE-1 + Kel HM-1)
Hey everybody, I just finished the mixing/recording of by band. It's female fronted alt-pop-rock-punk. Some of the influences are PJ Harvey, Fugazi, YYY, Metric, Hot Snakes to name a few. For the geek stuff: the vocal is essentially a Kel hm-1 into a Sage se-1 pre (everything went through the Sages)...

Are you recording through channels 1-4 or 5-8? There are +4 / -10 switches on the back for channels 5-8. Make sure that they are set to +4. I had this same problem myself, and it took me forever to figure it out because my 002R is racked and the back is not accessible. yes it was set to +4. To have...

sometimes with really transient sounds my ears pop a little bit. doesn't hurt at all, it's just annoying. could be anything and it doesn't have to be terribly loud....for example the clatter of dishes is brutal . btw burn, ms morespace is from montreal and it's nice to see you type the way she spea...

Crackling/Distortion in my ear, am I the only one??
A few years ago I listened to a kick drum way too loud in the monitors and I damaged something in my left ear (I was earing crackling/distortion when listening to a loud sound) I checked my ears at the hospital and they found nothing, they said everything was fine... After a few weeks/month the crac...

I was metering the PT levels with digital inspector, and when switching between "peak" and "average" modes (wich is rms I suppose) , there wasn't a so big difference in the levels, to be honest it was almost the same... but my main point is: why are the preamps so hot (or maybe it's just the drummer...

Levels too hot on the way in.
Last weekend I was tracking drums on a 002R for the first time. I wanted to record at -18dbfs to have headroom but even with the preamps turned all the way down (with dynamic mics) I was reaching -6 or even -3 and even sometimes peaking. I guess the only solution is getting pads?? Is there better br...

Question about ZVex Fuzz Factory
I'm wondering if they can also create classic fuzzface sounds or if they only do crazy over-the-top fuzzes?

Re: Flatwound strings on acoustic guitar?
I'm not aiming for a specific sound, I just want to stay away from the "modern" hi-fi acoustic guitar sound. I guess a good start is really heavy stringsjckinnick wrote: How old are we talking? Flatwound strings on acoustic guitar?
Ever tried flatwound on acoustic? Will this give me an old school country guitar tone or will it just kill the tone?
Anyway I'll try it to see for myself but I'm curious if it's a common practice or not, I found nothing on the subject...
