I find when recording drums like that what sounds best or "right" is so much a product of the situation at hand..room-kit-tuning-recording on tape or to bits, SONG, etc. I like a directional SDC's above when I record to tape for a song I want to hear cymbal detail, etc. with the high roll off of ta...

+1 on caffeine and sleep. I got it pretty bad after a Melvins show 3 or 4 years ago. Drove me crazy. Its gotten better over the last year or two. Not gone, but quieter and I obsess over it less, which means I suffer less. I still drink coffee, but in moderation. When I overdo the caffeine it kicks u...

very cool article. They did do a reunion tour many years later, but it was mostly a vanity project for Mike Love and some of the former members of CCR, since all of the original members had been put to sleep. I did FOH sound on that tour, Mike and the boys mics were never on, we had a bunch of pups...

A lot of people don't realize how late in the singing dogs career that was either. They could barely stand to be in the studio together and often came in at separate times to complete the overdubs. By this point the Rotweiler had already left the group and those deep barks are actually the dauchshun...

Yeah, I really think it comes down to taste. It is a great mic. To me it has a "modern" sound if that means anything at all - maybe its the high end extension for a dynamic. I can imagine that it would be possible to record a whole record with it and it would sound just fine. I think I am just a suc...

Can do some interesting things on snare, sort of modern and hi-fi. Can be a great voice-over mic. I have used it successfully on on banjo and acoustic guitar. It hasn't made the cut yet with me on guitar amps of sung vocals though. Actually, it didn't make the cut on snare either, it just sounded ve...

You have a website, you could host things there and use FTP directly with password protected folders for your clients.....CLients can just point any browser to the FTP folder and enter their password. If you have webspace, Fire-ftp, which is free plugin for firefox is crazy easy to use and makes up...

Re: Cheapish "battle" headphones recommendations?

I forget the model number, but the workhorse Sennheisers are really good. Between $20 and $40 a pair. Closed phones, decent sound, great for tracking/monitoring. GJ HD 201, HD 202. Nothing special, except the part about them being $20 each. Great beater studio phones. You wont cry if the dog chews ...

Okay now who is going to develop the format that inspires people to pay for music again? This is a serious question I'd like to hear any suggestions for... Personally I'm not big on buying downloads...mp3s sound like shit...and if you're going to make me pay $1 a song I want something physical. I s...

I have heard that flushing immediately with distilled or deionized water can sometimes work. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it isn't the water that screws up electronics, but all of the other minerals, etc in the water that short out circuits and such.
