It would be fun to see them again and I hope they come over to the states. I was listening to Loveless this weekend and was thinking how awesome it is that the drums are not huge. I often think that on older records the drums are much lower in the mix leaving more room for the guitars and vocals whi...

Repairing an lowery organ amp

A few months ago I bought an old Lowery combo organ off ebay that is not functioning. This model has an integral amplifier which seems to be the problem. Right now the amp and keyboard power up, but only make a loud buzz/hum. I took a look at the umbilical connector from the amp to keyboard and noti...

And not quite as shoegazy but I LOVE the band 'House of Love' from the same era. I'm listening to "Audience With a Mind" right now. They have lots of atmospheric guitar stuff going on too. Wow! The other House of Love fan! Nice to meet you. I think Babe Rainbow is up there with my top 10 favorite r...

I like the DAT deck idea. I'll definitely be doing some experimenting this weekend. I'm looking forward to turning some actual knobs and using my space echo.

Thanks for the replies. The one thing that I'm still a bit confused on is the best way to monitor. I would have thought I would either monitor off of the console or monitor the track that I am recording to in PT. Also does anyone know of a cheap a/b box that I could plug my mixer and PT outs into so...

Mixing OTB when you don't have a 2 Track Deck

So I finally have enough outputs to warrant an attempt at using my old mixer and outboard gear. I do not have a two track deck to mix to though and am wondering if I can mix back to a pair of tracks in Pro Tools. Is this stupid? I'm having a hard time conceptualizing this.

Thanks

[/quote] Yes. All those string synth sounds on early New Order. I think they used the Arp, if I recall. Think of it this way. You had string sections, then you had Mellotrons because you couldn't afford a string section, and then you had string synths because you couldn't afford a Mellotron. Basical...

I've never heard a string synth, but now this has me really intrigued. Are we talking like say Your Silent Face?

Not that I know anything about jazz now, but about ten years ago I bought my first two jazz records and they were Thelonious Himself and Monk's Music and man do I still dig them. Even the hiss adds to the whole thing. I don't know, I often put these two records on to get lost in music and just go so...

I definitely second or third the K&M for the low end. Much better than the regular dross at Sam's Ass and the like. I also have a straight up Atlas stand that I use for live shows. I love it because I can put all my weight on it and it doesn't slip, oh and it's chrome. I love chrome stands. I actual...
